On show at the 2015 Bangkok International Motor Show is the Toyota Corolla Altis ESport Nurburgring Edition – a really odd special edition for a sedate front-wheel drive sedan with a CVT, but there is a teeny tiny bit of credence to it.
The car commemorates Toyota Team Thailand’s seventh place class finish at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring last year, where it raced the Altis in the SP3 class (naturally-aspirated engines between 1,750 and 2,000 cc). Sounds like quite an achievement until you realise there were only seven finishers in the class, which meant it came in last – and second-to-last overall, in 109th place. Hey, at least it finished, right?
But never mind that, let’s focus on the special edition model, shall we? To be built in limited numbers, the Nurburgring Edition comes with an aggressive bodykit with large splitters on either side of the front bumper, deeper side skirts and a diffuser-like insert on the rear bumper – the latter two are similar to the optional aerokit available locally.
There’s also new side protector mouldings, a sizeable rear spoiler and Nürburgring decals on the front fenders, while the interior features a smattering of red trim and black leather upholstery with red stitching. The suspension has been retuned for better handling, but otherwise the mechanicals remain unmolested – a 1.8 litre Dual VVT-i four-pot sends 141 PS and 177 Nm to the front wheels via the aforementioned CVT.
The Toyota Corolla Altis ESport Nurburgring Edition will go on sale in the Land of Smiles in April, with prices starting at 949,000 baht (RM107,920) for the Black Mica model – those who want the privilege of having White Pearl paint will instead have to fork out 959,000 baht (RM109,058).

Thank you Jonathan for this piece of information! No thanks to Gregory. :P

Bikin malu Toyota sahaja
*buttpalm*
uncle car also want to be associated to Nurburgring? must be in the midst of mid-age crisis……………………
Where is the RV king now? Probably having with his stick in the exhaust of unsold Toyota cars in the showroom. LOL.. I guess this is the only company/person in the world who celebrates something LAST. Malunye.
In other words, a syok sendiri company
Kakakakakakakakakaka
That Sam loo feller talk kok all the time only la. Everyone been asking him to sell those hyundais but he talk kok only coz he got nothing la. When ppl ask him he keep quiet. All the cash buyers waiting here but he said he ship the cars to Bangladesh to sell. What a moron. Which retarded feller want to do extra job and ship to bangla to park in yard waiting for buyer when buyers here are ready to buy all his stock in cash?
Remember. Empty vessel makes the most noise. Just like Toyota. Keranda kosong that finish last place but still can open champagne and party and make big hoo-haa.
more reason to buy a toyota…;p
Why do they have to associate the gentle Corolla with the Nurburgring? Makes no sense at all.
toyota personnel: greetings, to celebrate our 7th place in 24 hours nurburgring race last year, we have come out with this special edition of toyota corolla altis! yay!
customer: oh really? 7th place for toyota! what an achievement! glad to hear that.
toyota personnel: ya, although it had only 7 cars racing, it’s still a great achievement for toyota! yay!
customer: 7 cars? 7th place? that means you guys are dead last! what’s so happy about that?
toyota personnel: it’s still an achievement right? (awkward silence followed…..)
Actually Toyota did finish first out of seven, it just not Toyota Corolla Altis.
SP3 class results:
1. Toyota 86
2. Renault Clio Cup
3. Opel Manta
4. Renault Clio 3
5. Volkswagen Golf 3 GTI
6. Renault Clio RS
7. Toyota Corolla Altis
Talk about reliability. There is no Honda there, or Mazda,or Nissan, or ford. There can be easily 40 mainstream car manufacturers in the world. And who clinched top spot in that very class?
Also Toyota.
There is Honda S2000 took part in that race under SP3 class but consider under ‘not classified’, probably did not manage to finish the race. There is also Nissan GTR (best position: 14), Mazda MX-5 (not classified), Honda Civic Type R (pos:81), Ford Focus (pos:102) and Ford Fiesta ST (pos: 110 finish last behind Altis) in that same race but different class of course.
3. Opel Manta
5. Volkswagen Golf 3 GTI
7. Toyota Corolla Altis
Opel Manta production stopped in 1988 and Golf 3 GTI production stopped in 1997.
So it’s quite an achivement NOT to win against 27 and 18 year old cars. Possibly Toyota should race against pre-war cars to have a chance to win? ;)
What is the car behind that Altis? Orange-reddish vehicle…
Its the Asian Yaris!
Ladyboy edition. For those who have queer taste in life
aka Sam Loo edition
Actually, I plan to get UMW to intro a Hailat Edition for ex-kimchi owners that have ditched their rotten cabbages
Lol. Damn good marketing. 7th place…. out of 7.
Luckily it didn’t come to Malaysia. Otherwise it will be localized to MEX highway edition… Wakaka
This Toyota Thailand macam gomen bolehland aje. Buat brg brg tak senonoh…
Weather you like it or not if in Bangkok on holiday you’ll surely be ferry around in one of this wonderfull Nurburgring taxi which is all over the place..proud as ever Bkk TAxi 7 place Nurburgring Amazing Thailand
Better to give the Nurburgring title to 86. 86 is the winner, not the Altis :p
No engine changes? I hope toyota will put supercharged 2ZR, which is found on lotus elise, but, buat malu toyota je, payah2 buat sedan macam ni bila finish 7th.
Sorry, I still cannot stop laughing, Toyota definitely got a sense of humor with NERD-BURG-RING race car. This qualifies ther entry for joke of the year.
Definitely reassures me that this is a car company with no sense for anything. Maybe can enter tour de langkawi?
Fark, stuck with insurance agent the whole afternoon.
Gotta renew business insurance but this time round, I kena kau kau on premium.
The agent and adjuster came in to let me know that in one of the KIA showrooms, a kimchi owner that wanted to trade in his K5 got a stroke after the salesman told him that trade in is not accepted.
So, he sneaked to the rooftop of the 2 story shoplot and jumped down. Fortunately, he only suffered a broken leg and a fractured arm.
The underlying issue is now insurance underwriters has been given a blanket instruction to all premises that deals with Korean Cars the following :-
1) Have Trained First Aid Worker
2) Defribilator
3) Clinic within 1.5km
4) Barriers or barracade from main roads/drains/high areas to prevent suicide.
Now I have to invest in all items 1-4. Gotta lower the trade in value of Hyundais to pay for this
BS story. I feel so cold
Oh man, you seem more serious recently!
Keep on living in your own world and stay inside the showroom to clean the show car from time to time ya..
Dont come out ya.. earth is so dangerous to you! lol
Having learnt the lesson with my rotten cabbage, I will never ever be stupid enough to buy Korean again.
3 years of hard work with zero recognition plus having to park far far away in family gatherings – never again
next year proton will have 24 edition…not for 24 hours but 24th place
Yes, in your dream!
I’ve read about this special version of Corolla at Jalopnik. And oh my, they hilariously trashing the car. LOL! Poor Altis.
If i’m not mistaken.. the very same Altis race car also entered the Sepang 1000Km race last year December. driven by Nattavude, Suttipong and Nattapong.. 3 of the same drivers who drove at Nuburgring. there were 30 cars in the race with cars from proton, suzuki, honda, toyota, ford and mazda. The race finished with proton R3 in 1st and 2nd, Honda Malaysia Team 3rd and 4th, and this altis finished in 8th, which isn’t bad at all.
Ni baru syok sendiri
I think that 24h from the logo represents the time obtained during track, or it is just a badge that signify that the car made a trip to germany at Nurburgring ..
I own this car(..not the Nurburgring version), it is very good but come on ..
