Mazda has unveiled the Mazda 2 1.3 SkyActiv-G at the ongoing 2015 Bangkok International Motor Show. Standard, High and High Plus variants are available, as well as sedan and hatch bodystyles, and they’re all motivated by a 1.3 SkyActiv-G petrol engine and a six-speed auto (with Sport mode as standard).
The little engine develops 93 PS at 5,800 rpm and 123 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm – that’s 19 PS and 25 Nm down on our 1.5 petrol, and 12 PS and 127 Nm less than the Thai-market 1.5 diesel.
The 1.3 petrol actually apes the 1.5 diesel’s equipment in Thailand, spec-for-spec, except for the wheels – here, they’re all 15s (capped steel for Standard) whereas the diesel has 15- and 16-inch alloys.
As such, the Standard variant features manual air-con, keyless start, i-stop, a satin gear lever surround without a gloss black base, pyjama-like fabric seats and a radio where you’d expect to find the MZD Connect screen. The steering wheel is not leather-wrapped and there are no phone controls.
The High variant nets you alloy wheels, auto single-zone air-con, keyless entry, textured gloss grey trim on the dashboard, gloss black gear lever base, shiny silver trim on the gear lever surround and lower steering wheel spoke, plus blue fabric seats. Both Standard and High use the low-spec centre-speedo instrument panel, and do without aluminium pedals.
The High Plus is the one we’re familiar with – you’ll find the MZD Connect touch-screen and Commander Control knob, head-up display, aluminium pedals, leather seats with red stripes, a leather-trimmed dashboard, a leather-covered steering wheel with phone controls, plus the high-spec digital-speedo instrument panel.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
will this come to Malaysia?and does it has sedan?
It’s just another crampy car
I know what you mean. I too am over 6’5″ tall and need to constantly carry a family of six around and can’t afford a bigger car. If only Mazda would listen to poor sods like us who want everything.
Get a Avanza then all your family member happy instead you syok sendiri in the tiny Mazda.
65k for 1.3L
Overpriced
Please wait for CKD Mazda2, nothing special to buy a CBU Thai at 85k as Mazda3 CBU from Japan.
CBU: 85k high
For CKD Mazda2 programme at Msia
(Petrol, GDI Skyactive, 6 Speeds):
Mazda2 1.5: 58k-70k mid-high
Mazda2 1.3: 50k-63k mid-high
Wokie “tree stump”.
With GST implanted, don’t think it will price below 70k…
Dealer and our Govt “BN” just knowledge to crazy increase price…
BN = Burden Rakyat
I LOL at the analogue radio being displayed high up in the centre.
This car will be grossly onderpowered at 93PS only, not forgetting those big voluptous babes if four of them cramped into its little cabin space.
Might as well get a Honda City.
lol that stereo in place of the screen looks cool…
i found it a bit awkward though. it’s like an afterthought.
Why can’t we just have the manual…
Dont bring it the 1.3L version to Malaysia. Engine too small. Here the competitors are all running on 1.5L. Mitsubishi Attrage is good example of this which cannot sell much units because of the 1.2L engine
there are a lot 1.3 MyVis on the road….cannot sell? it cannot sell due to pricing…not the cc….attrage price is too near to low spec 1.5L city/vios….
fuel consumption is the key for this 1.3L mazda…not power…
Interior air cond design bit like Audi A3
Cannot price below 70k later Proton marah
Must price above 80k so most people cannot afford and have to buy proton so proton can continue to sustain and build more Saga for the Rakyats.
