2016 Mitsubishi Outlander officially shows its face

First, it was teased, then captured sans camouflage, then teased again. As a result, the unveiling of the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander at the ongoing 2015 New York International Auto Show (2015 NYIAS) is nothing more than just an official reason for us to give you a more detailed write-up on the seven-seater crossover.

Looks wise, the new Outlander is the first model to sport Mitsubishi’s latest design language. The front fascia adopts what Mitsubishi calls the ‘Dynamic Shield’ treatment which features a front grille with twin, horizontal chrome bars flanked by halogen head lamps (the higher-specced GT variant comes equipped with LED lights), themselves accompanied by LED daytime running lights.

Below, a blacked-out bumper masks the front air intakes while the entire assembly is gets bordered by a stylised chrome strip. Moving further back, tri-spoked 18-inch alloy wheels are present while the rear of the Outlander gets rounded off with the addition of chunky LED tail lamps.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander gets a choice of two petrol-powered engines – a 2.4 litre four-banger with 166 hp and 219 Nm of torque or a 3.0 litre V6 pumping out 224 hp and 291 Nm. The V6 is paired to a six-speed automatic while the four-cylinder mill is mated to a newly-developed CVT.

Inside, the steering wheel receives an updated design while higher-quality materials are employed throughout. All variants will receive a standard display audio system while the high-spec GT version gets an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a Homelink system for wireless garage door accessibility.

Other engineering enhancements include a redesigned suspension setup, increased structural rigidity, the adoption of electric power steering, a “noise-isolating” windshield and rear window and added sound insulation material with improved weather stripping. On SEL and GT variants, the Outlander features a Forward Collision Mitigation system, Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control.

With sightings of the Outlander PHEV in Malaysia occurring as recent as December last year, is there a chance of this one making it here?

I remembered those days when a red airtrek turbo with blacked out rims and windows was the coolest thing to ever grace our roads….

I doubt MMM would bring in this tho….since CR-Vs and CX-5s are ruling the market….

The round shape control button in the steerling wheel of the Toyota and this Mitsubishi is so ugly.
