R172 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class updated with new 2.0 turbo engine, transmissions and added equipment

SLK

Changes are aplenty for the 2015 R172 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class with the range receiving new powerplant and transmission options along with added standard conveniences and safety equipment. This is a surprising move to say the least, as the new SLC-badged facelift model (following Merc’s new naming structure) shouldn’t be too far off now.

The base SLK 200 gets a new engine – a turbocharged 2.0 litre unit from the latest C- and E-Class to replace the old 1.8 litre mill. Output figures are now 184 hp and 300 Nm (30 Nm up from before). Using the same engine is the new SLK 300, in place of the outgoing SLK 250. With 245 hp and 370 Nm (up 40 hp and 60 Nm), it gets to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.

Further up the range, the V6-engined SLK 350 (306 hp, 370 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds) and V8-powered SLK 55 AMG (421 hp, 540 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds) remain unchanged. The sole diesel variant, the SLK 250 d (previously SLK 250 CDI), has a 2.1 litre engine with 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque. It has a 0-100 km/h time of 6.6 seconds and an official fuel consumption rating of 4.4 l/100 km.

As for transmission-related updates, a new six-speed manual transmission is standard on the SLK 200 while the SLK 250 d and SLK 300 variants are equipped with the new 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. Buyers can option said auto ‘box on the SLK 200 should the need arise.

Additional standard equipment include start/stop capabilities across the range, along with LED daytime running lights (previously an option) and an LTE-capable onboard antenna. Also, the SLK’s safety kit gets ramped up with the inclusion of Attention Assist, Distronic Plus and Collision Prevention Assist Plus.

Never buy German except for sausages. German cars are well known for their reliability issue, just look at VW.

Buy Toyota better, good RV. Latest Camry hybrid got you conti quality with Malaysian price.

What? Just 95 hybrid booked? If toyota is such a great car, the numbers should be in hundreds by now.

Good to know that Malaysians have came to sense that toyota is only good for reliability and do called rv. Safety is never UMW concern, only profit is

You think buying Camry at 175k is a daily aunty-going-to-pasar-buy-veggie affair? You can say whatever you want. My one month commission can anytime buy a Merc but I still prefer a Toyota.

Work harder, time to upgrade your Perodua MyVi.

Sorry, i’m driving a VW car.
And yes i faced DSG failure with this car b4, but it does not happen 24/7 nor it takes months for repair. FYI, it only took 3 days to replace the mechatronic.

When my car is not breaking down, can your toyota match my car in terms of handling, safety, FC and road tax? NVH nvm let you win.

Well, you can say anything u SUKA…
My experience with VW has been nothing but good
I had a door lock problem and sent to service centre.
They replaced it as part of the warranty despite my car being 3 years old.
Every cloud has a silver lining, not all things are bad.
