Looks like we’ll be getting the Renault Fluence facelift next week, as revealed by the official Renault Malaysia Facebook page. The teaser above is clearly of the updated C-segment sedan, while the second picture (below) mentions the April 23, 2015 launch date.

The facelifted Fluence (full gallery embedded below) features a heavily updated face – one that matches the newer Clio and Koleos models. It’s quite a looker, isn’t it?

Renault Malaysia introduced the Fluence in May last year, priced at RM115,000. The figure has since dropped to RM113,888 after GST. The locally-assembled 2.0 litre sedan is one of the better-equipped models in its class, with standard-fit 17-inch wheels, keyless entry, navigation, six airbags and ESP.

Earlier this year, the Fluence Black Edition was announced, which included a full exterior and interior makeover. The price asked is RM118,888, post-GST. We’ll have more on the Renault Fluence facelift soon.

I thought Toyota always good resale value?!

For big cars the brand doesn’t make a difference. Ford, VW, Toyota, Honda, … they cost a similar amount.

Thank God. The most famous Renault here is the Megane. (Except the Kangoo of course, but that’s a commercial vehicle).
If Renault wanted to raise it’s brand profile here, they need to get a unifying design across it’s stable. They should have bring this first and skipped the old design.

I agree. The funny thing is this facelift was introduced in 2012. The version that they brought into Malaysia was also introduced 2012… it was also a facelift, but for the Korean market. I don’t know what they were smoking in Korea when they thought “Oh, that European design is too flashy, we’ll create a more conservative one for our market!”. Haven’t they seen any Hyundai or Kia?

Since the parts for the car sold in Malaysia come from Korea I suppose TC didn’t have a choice. Ironically roughly at the time this car was launched in Malaysia Korea switched to the European facelift… and saw an increase in sales. But by that time it was too late to introduce the design in Malaysia. I suppose now they are getting the new front bumper from Korea and can introduce the new face. (The only difference seems to be the front bumper, maybe TC can offer an upgrade for owners of the pre-FL Fluence?).

the new Mazda 3 (CKD) lead by a mile in almost all fronts with very competitive price. All eyes will focus on what the facelifted fluence can offer!

That’s the problem. Before the 3 this seemed to be a great offer, hampered by bad looks. Now the looks are ok, but there is the 3, which offers quite a lot for a very good price.

The advantages of the Fluence should be more space and easier servicing and maintenance, plus of course the service package that is hard to beat. It out Japaneses the Japanese! Courtesy car, pick up service, proven drive train taken from a car that has been sold in Malaysia for quite a while (i.e. mechanics are familiar with it, spare parts are available, plenty of workshops, …). The Mazda 3 is more modern, which unfortunately means few mechanics have experience with the engine, they may not understand it, etc.

The Mazda 3 is a Japanese car that tries hard to be European (with added reliability), and does a good job at that. Driveability, the lack of space inside, the focus on design and nice interior, … all quite European.

The Renault Fluence is a European car that tries hard to be Japanese, and again seems to do a good job at that.

Both cars are very viable choices IMHO, and you can’t go wrong with either (unless you want to sell after a year… good luck with either car doing that!). It’s good that you don’t have to think about safety, that’s how it should be. No matter what you pick, it’s a safe car. Thankfully that applies to both the Mazda and the Renault.

Btw., how reasonable are Mazda SCs? From my experience with Renault in JB they are pretty fair. The prices are good, the workmanship is good. Wouldn’t want to go to outside workshops, they may not charge less, but they may screw up a lot. Waiting times are pretty reasonable too, IMHO. Renault isn’t as overrun and overworked as, say, VW, Ford, Peugeot…

It may not be a looker, like the Mazda 3, but I think the facelift improved things A LOT. Funny what a difference only a new front bumper (that’s all that is changed!) can make.

This new facelift is certainly a looker and the car is very much underrated. No harm will come to any of you if you would just drop by at any of their showroom and test drive it. This car doesn’t have a great handling but it purpose of built is more to comfort ride which is family focus. The upper hand…go see the car yourself, you will be surprise with the features and value it gives for that price. RV? Grow up…those who purchase this car certainly doesn’t fall in the catergory buy today trade in next year.

I had bad experience servicing my Renault Espace yrs ago. Could not lock due to faulty central locking & it happened days before my outstation trip. But Nissan Renault refused to even look at the car because no prior appointment. Next available appointment was a week ago. Never again. Bye Nissan.

Ouch. Which SC was it? I can only say that the JB one is good (to me). Can’t speak for the others.
