Oriental Holdings in dealership talks with Proton

Proton showroom

It has been reported that Proton is in negotiations with Oriental Holdings for the latter to set up a Proton dealership business. Citing industry sources, The Edge reported over the weekend that talks between Proton Holdings and Oriental have been underway for some time now and that an agreement is close at hand.

It’s also understood that Oriental is reviewing its Hyundai dealership business with Sime Darby, with the arrangement reportedly not going very well for Oriental. Oriental currently operates Hyundai, Honda and Mitsubishi dealerships.

An analyst report projects a positive outlook on the potential Proton/Oriental partnership. The report states that with Proton lacking big 3S centres, Oriental – with its financial strength and industry experience – would be a reliable partner in developing Proton’s 3S dealerships in the most efficient way, and that the venture would very much fit the automaker’s long-term strategy.

Last week, Proton announced a new dealership expansion programme – working through its subsidiary Proton Edar, the Malaysian carmaker has extended an invitation to interested external parties to invest in new Proton 3S (sales, service and spare parts) dealerships nationwide.

Oriental – the same jokers who could barely run Hyundai in Malaysia before Sime came in.

Credit when due, while Sime’s been only doing a so-so job, it was still ahead of Oriental. Both from a sales and manufacturing perspective.

If Oriental comes barging in,Proton Edar Dealers Association will marah.
It is already too crowded. The swimming pool is too full of swimmers now.Someone will get drowned.
In fact,Proton should kiss goodbye to some underperforming dealers.TRim to the right size like MAS, which is cutting the excess fat now.
More dealers do not translate into more sales. It is your AWESOME BUILD QUALITY and POOR CHINA MADE PUNCH CVT gearbox that are clearly your benchmark problems.Protong, you are not solving problems, you are simply creating more problems by courting Oriental.
Watchout, some of your PEDA members will mogok in front of your Head Office.

Oriental will show to Proton how to run car business properly.

But then if Oriental able to prove itself better than Proton Edar and other dealers, hopefully no jealousy crap that will ruin the whole thing.

I see where Proton is going for their distributorship. Maybe they are relinquishing their distribution arm, Proton Edar from acting as dealers and decides to franchise the sales through dealership contract with other companies, much like foreign brand contracting local companies to sell their cars here.

A good move from a marketing standpoint, but the companies they are hiring should have excellent track record for after sales and service quality. Not to mention pricing strategy for parts.

Oriental wants this deal because they will be the main distrubutor to sell the =ACCORD=DANA= to the public next few months.

They anticipate good sales with the fact that the car is based on the Honda Accord but at the ‘Proton’ Price.

ALL GOOD BUSINESS BUT HOW WOULD THE DEAL PEN OUT ???? Interesting HMMMMMMM

BY THE WAY I AM AN INSIDER.

Oh yes, Honda Malaysia distributor during 80’s and long track record business in auto industry in sales and services even before Proton was conceived.

Indeed Oriental has the know how to setup Proton 3S dealership like a franchise business model but is not the only Malaysian companies know how to do this 3S dealership. It also sending a message to current service outlets your days are numbered, as latest cars fitted ECU and longer warranty 5 years. ECU does monitor and troubleshooting on car from ECU interface system. Unless there is hack version of ECU interface system for Proton cars these are very expensive tools.

How Proton address clone Proton parts and parallel import parts?

    This is good:
    1) Proton sending message that other dealers need to buck up coz now there is competitor.
    2) More choice for consumer.
    3) Oriental needs a new brand to carry.
    4) I am sure Oriental sees that there is money to be made from Proton brand
