Opel/Vauxhall has begun teasing its new Opel Astra K, even though the hatch remains clad in camo and in prototype form. The 11th-gen will make its debut at the IAA in Frankfurt in September.
The company has come up with a video celebrating the Astra’s heritage, with Opel CEO Dr Karl-Thomas Neumann stating that the upcoming car will feature “an awesome design,” highest efficiency and an abundance of innovations.
The new car is smaller than the outgoing 10th-gen J, but the automaker says the the interior space is set to be increased. It’s also going to be much lighter than its predecessor.
According to Autobild, which has reportedly gotten up close with one of the development mules, the Astra K – which will be underpinned by a D2XX platform – will be around 120 to 200 kg lighter than the J, which is no small thing. And, despite having a shorter overall length and reduced wheelbase, the new Astra will have an additional 34mm of legroom. More on this one as it gets closer to Frankfurt.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
This is what happens when a car company with soul, passion and really wanna do their best, build a car. You can see the pride in his eyes.
But you can’t say the same for other GM products. Like some of the Chevys are just ghastly. Cost cutting written all over it.
Bring Opel back to Malaysia, dump off Chevy. Come on Naza, at least real Opels (like the Astra, Adam, Corsa and Zafira) are actually quite nice.
Spot on sudonano. The Korean/Daewoo Chevys are all eyesores to look at on our roads. Like I’ve said many times before, Opel has stronger brand reputation/acceptance in this region for
mainstream passenger cars compared to Chevy. Not to mention Opel have better design and quality. Wake up Naza! Bring in the Opels!
Yes indeed, Sudonano – you forgot the D to E segment killer named Insignia :P :P
Any Opel malaysia owner??
Can’t wait for the VXR version.
His accent is extremely amusing…
‘Ze O-pal Azsthgghraa ‘
On the hand, US built Chevys (big sedans, muscle cars and sportscar) quite nice cars..
When a CEO talks…
I bet nobody want to correct his pronunciation. its just plain confident and amusing. Even me (who never touch an Opel) felt like to test one..
Why Mr. Paul report a car brand that are not being sold in Malaysia?
