UberX Malaysia revises pricing structure – base/min fare, per minute/kilometre charges all increased

uberX

Uber Malaysia has announced a price revision for its uberX service. Stating a need to “compensate Uber Partners (drivers) fairly,” the firm has introduced its updated fares which go into effect on May 6.

The base fare to hire an uberX car now begins at RM2, up from RM1.50. Costs per kilometre/minute have also been hiked up, with 35 sen charged for every minute and 70 sen per kilometre – up 15 sen from the previous figures on both criteria. The outgoing minimum fare has been increased by RM1 to RM3.50. Cancellation fees remain unchanged at RM5.

In light of the increased fares, Uber still maintains that its uberX services are up to 20% cheaper when compared to regular taxis. In other news, Uber Singapore, along with its partner, Dream Drive, have teamed up to offer a supercar service for those looking to make a larger than necessary entrance.

No such luck for us Malaysians, though. The next best thing to hit home is Uber’s further expansion of its services into the state of Johor. Now, one has improved accessibility in/out of Senai, JPO (Johor Premium Outlets), Skudai and Nusajaya.

As a regular uber and taxi rider, i felt that sometimes uber and taxi don’t really have much difference in term of the fare, even before the price hike.
And it is really hard to get uber in Taman desa area.

A friend started driving under Uber last week. From what he told me, definitely not making money. Perhaps losing.

Trip from Sunway to Seremban, only RM64.
Uber only reimbursed RM3.60 for the toll charges.

Trip around MidValley, Mont Kiara, Bangsar area. He did 5 trips. Total collected about RM50.

On top of that, 20% goes to Uber as commission. And you still have to pay for petrol and wear and tear.

Those who thought of earning some pocket money, better think twice.

True, me myself as Uber driver.
Yes i earned more than RM200 per week, however RM150 already spent at the petrol.

But again, this one is depends on you how you operate your car. For me i waited at the roadside waiting for customer request while engine off to avoid wasting petrol.

UberX is cheaper than regular taxis, although it remains to be seen how much cheaper it will be now with the fare increase. Cars are scarce when you really need to hail one + there’s surge pricing when demand is high so that adds to the cost.

I’m still waiting for them to expand into Puchong and Glenmarie and even in Shah Alam. Right now have to use MyTeksi instead to get around.

Puchong is available but you have to move your pin around a bit. I stay in Kinrara, I get uber to come to my area by moving my pin and informing the driver my real address. Sometimes have to negotiate a bit as the driver will start their trip from the point where you dragged it. But it’s a very small compensation for them for a convenient service provided by them.
Once you use uber – there’s no turning back :)
