Toyota Innova MPV to add to brown TEKS1M fleet, no longer exclusive to Proton Exora?

DSC_0136b

SPAD’s brown TEKS1M fleet may no longer be exclusive to the Proton Exora as The Sun Daily reports that other makes such as the Toyota Innova might be added to enable SPAD to meet its target of having 7,500 units of the TEKS1M on the road by the end of 2015.

According to the report, there are currently only 1,000 units of the Proton Exora TEKS1M fleet in the Klang Valley, Johor and Penang. If those numbers are true, it s quite a number short of the 7,500 unit target.

Innova

The report adds that the TEKS1M-spec Toyota Innova will be priced at RM73,228 for the manual and RM76,011 for the auto. The Innova is currently an option for blue executive taxis.

According to car research website CarBase.my, retail prices for the Innova are RM93,691.38 for the 2.0 manual and from RM98,415.87 to RM105,779.57 for the auto. However, those are consumer specs and pricing – TEKS1M specs are usually different including different clauses for warranty.

NV200 London-12

The report says that SPAD is also in talks with other makes like Nissan. Nissan has been known to be pushing the NV200 as a taxi in various regions in a bid for “world taxi domination”.

It has successfully won the race to replace the Ford Crown Vic yellow cabs in New York and there has been a proposal for a NV200-based London Black Cab. Electric versions of the NV200 taxis are in use in Barcelona.

No point changing taxi models if the taxi driver’s attitude remain same

If they dare to make it free market, you will see our Prius/Prius C second hand selling like hot cake for taxi.

        RM60 for 700km.

Why they are so expensive now? Thanks to Proton and its protection.

it’s all because of cronies. UMW now cry foul because their Innova don’t get preferential treatment. If really wanna take the most economical and the best one you would already take the Nissan NV200 as it is already proven.

  • UMW toyota is PR crony supporter. The Gov should get NV200/NV350 instead or even Serena Hybrid. Support 3rd party, not PR crony!

    • DRB Proton is BN crony supporter. Because of Proton, we have to pay 20-30k extra for Innova to protect Exora. Support 3rd party, not BN crony!

Innova was being selected is because of reliablity. Nissan and Proton cant beat the realibility of Toyota, As all these cabs are using NGV, the valve of the engine of Nissan and Proton cant sustain the heat and dry, and will be bend easily. Toyota was proven as it can last longer as compared to Nissan and Proton.

Agrees on the NV200 comments… it’s just 1.6, more than enough, even the-power-that-be on London taxi approves it

Although Innova more reliable than Exora, but the latter is far more comfy, plus it’s grill gave me nitemares

but seriously NV200 is bang on the money for taxi, IMHO

    • Maybe that’s why SPAD has to reduce the number of Exora. Takut terbakar
