Hennessey Venom GT – US$1.4 million for 1,244 hp

Hennessey_Venom_GT_17-e1431668735242

The insane Henessey Venom GT is finally on sale, priced at a cool US$1.4 million (RM5 million) in the USA. The company says the Venom is made for those who think the Bugatti Veyron “seems a little too tame.” Like, seriously?

Yes, seriously. The Venom GT, which is a heavily modified Lotus, has a blistering top speed of 435.31 km/h, which was officially recorded at the Kennedy Space Centre last year. The Veyron, even in its ultimate Super Sports form, could only manage 431 km/h.

The reason for that is the Hennessey’s massive 7.0 litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which is tuned to churn out 1,244 hp and 1,564 Nm of torque. All that power is fed to the rear wheels (Michelin Super Sport tyres on 20-inch H10 forged monoblocks) through a six-speed Ricardo manual gearbox.

Acceleration figures are just as crazy. Zero to 100 km/h takes just 2.7 seconds, and 0-320 km/h is over and done with in 14.5 seconds. So, anyone with a (really) thick wallet and balls of steel interested?

It’s not a standard Exige chassis. Henessey lengthened the platform so the 7.0 engine could fit in. Just look at the side photo and you will see it’s much longer than an Exige.

    • Engine liter size doesn’t equal external dimensions. This is the venerable small block Chevy, albeit in the LSx form (similar to the V8 in the 2005-14 Corvette). The external dimensions haven’t changed much from the original 1955 265 cubic inch (4.3 liter)to full race 7+ liter LSx and LTx versions in modern racing cars (GM sells a 7.4 liter version of this engine called the LSX454R). They have gotten substantially lighter due to aluminum blocks and head versus the original iron.

It is one of the most compact, efficient, and lightest V8 engines due to its pushrod, 2 valve design. This design also makes it shorter and narrower and the weight lower and closer to the ground compared to DOHC 4 valve designs.

It is also worth noting that the new 460 horsepower 6.2 liter LT1 Corvette gets 30 mpg highway which is the same or better than most V6 family cars with half the liters and horsepower. The 3.7 liter, 332 horsepower Nissan 370z only gets 26 mpg by comparison.

Crazy pricing. US selling RM5Mil. Come to Malaysia RM15mil?
Can buy 6 units of Lamborghini Aventador 2013 2.5mil each. 0-100 2.9 seconds. just 0.2 seconds slower.. lol

    • You are utterly stupid if you think 0-60 is everything about a car. In real life most races go way past 100kph, the aventador will look like its parked when the venom blows by.
Also, this is a rwd car, of course it takes more time to get to 60.
You want to say bang for buck a GTR will smoke your beloved aventador and costs less than half as much.

Lotus was owned by Romano Artioli, who also owned Bugatti Automobili SpA from 1993 to 1996. They have already developed the aluminum extrusion frame in 1996. The Aston Martin DB9 chassis was developed with the help of Lotus Engineering. With just a little modification, it is not a surprise this car can get that kind of performance. Well… it look better that Veyron IMHO. I bet I got better handling than a Veyron too.

The first car based on the “extended” Lotus’ extruded aluminum frame was the awesome looking Lotus GT1 from the late 1990s. I guess this Hennessey Venom is the second car based around that..

Lotus has a lot of potential.
Intelligent may you be to understand what I mean.

      Perhaps someone can try this: 1244 + 1564 + 86 = ?

since we think the WCTY handles so well.

  • The presence is just not there on May 15, 2015 at 4:38 pm

This may be faster then a Bugatti Veyron, but it’s looks and styling just doesn’t strike me as a THE Supercar.

The Veyron just has a presence that lets you know it’s MEANT to be the king of the road. This looks like any other sports car.

  • The 6 speed is the Ricardo from the Ford GT supercar.
The engine is a highly modified LSx (GM based, similar to Corvette) pushrod(cam in block), 2 valve per cylinder.
The chassis is a VERY highly modified Lotus with unique carbon bodywork, suspension, brakes, etc.
