You read that title right. Need for Speed will be back again later this year, and this time, it’s going back to its underground roots. It’s not quite going to be called NFS Underground 3, but it’s effectively that – a follow up to the sub-franchise that we all know and love.
The Need for Speed franchise has had countless iterations over the years, but none more memorable that the two Underground releases in 2003 and 2004. Recapturing that success is new developer Ghost Games’ number one priority.
Oh yes, car customisation, urban car culture, a storyline, they will all be back before the end of 2015, when the new game is due on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Last-gen console owners, it’s up to upgrade.
Over to you, then. Watch the trailer above and the high-res, photo-realistic screenshots below, and tell us what you think in the comments section. Is this a backward step for the tired Need for Speed franchise, or is it exactly what it needs?

that vintage porshe.. yum
It’s not vintage, its an RWB Porsche
Yeah! I will be looking forward to play this :)
Need for Speed Underground was awesome and all, but it has not aged well… what do you expect ? It’s a rice simulator ! lol Underground was the thing back in 2003/ 2004, but try playing it again today, it feels totally archaic ! Most Wanted (2005) has aged well though, I still think it’s better than its remake which felt more like a ‘Need for Speed : Burnout Edition’ ! But for me, the best NFS will always be the third one from 1998, Need for Speed III : Hot Pursuit. It made me love cars and is the reason why I’m typing this comment here today. :]
Happy to hear that NFS is ‘going underground’ again, but it’s a little to late for me. :/ Grown out of video games for a while now, they only serve as childhood memorabilia these days.
Grew up playing NFS too; NFS 3, High Stake, Porsche Unleashed, Hot Pursuit 1 and 2, Underground 1 and 2, Shift, Undercover. Now I would prefer simulators like Forza Motorsport, Gran Turismo and Project Gotham Racing, or Real Racing 3 in mobile apps.
most wanted..i still played the game until this day..love it!!
If there’s one thing that makes some of the gaming communities angered by the NFS series is – this game is the PRIME CULPRIT for the absence of Porsche cars in the latest Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo (not counting RUF) games. How EA has managed to be granted the exclusive Porsche licence all these years, for the highly arcade-ish NFS series is a question that has left many racing game fans highly disappointed.
I’m obviously looking forward to this game….but do they really have to discontinue Need For Speed World?
i would hope this game to be named as Need for Speed: Fast with Furious, to give a bit respect to Paul..Walker.
Does it include Ops warta mode where player got summons for speeding and you have to use game credit to pay to unlock the games?
