McLaren Special Operations unveils personalised P1

Unless your residential zip code happens to read 90210 or that you hold the keys to both an apartment in Monaco and a house along Lake Como, the chances of you coming face to face with a McLaren P1 is probably close to nil. With only 375 units made, Woking’s hybrid hypercar plays the role of the unicorn better even than its counterpart from Maranello and Stuttgart, the LaFerrari and 918 Spyder.

So why is it then that owners of such a car would opt to further customise their limited edition machines? Simple, because they can. This particular example, commissioned by a certain Mr. David Kyte of Kyte Associates Ltd, was recently unveiled by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) – a sort of do-anything-bar-the-cost division within McLaren Automotive.

In the case of this particular one-off, the McLaren P1 features a glossy, bright blue paintwork that gets offset by red pinstripes and accents – the latter can be found lining the front splitter, door surrounds, bonnet air extractors, side skirts, rear diffuser and the rim of the gloss black wheels.

Elsewhere, red brake calipers further complement the aforementioned crimson highlights. Swing the doors upward and one is first greeted by the MSO insignia, tattooed onto the wide carbon sill – an Alcantara-swathed interior, replete with carbon-fibre trim follows suit. The centre stack, along with the air-con vents, are painted in the same shade of deep azure.

No mechanical upgrades have been quoted by McLaren but to do so would definitely warrant a salute from us and an appointment letter to the nearest psychologist. Power figures should remain unchanged then, with a total of 903 hp and 978 Nm of torque courtesy of a twin-turbo 3.8 litre V8 petrol engine, augmented by an electric motor.

A seven-speed Graziano-built dual-clutch transmission sends all that power to just the rear wheels, resulting in a 0-100 km/h time of 2.8 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 349 km/h. An all-electric range (tested under the EPA cycle) of 31 km is possible while overall operation range is quoted at 530 km.

No need 90210 address la. No need Monaco apartment. You just have to be an UMNO member and have a few Government contracts. You can buy this car anytime. No need loan. Just pay cash!

Look at Taib of Sarawak, he has a few Rolls Royce at 4.5 million each.
