The arrival of Munich’s latest flagship, the G11 BMW 7 Series, is clearly nigh – spied, detailed, even leaked; we know a lot about the big Bavarian bruiser even before its launch. Now, BMW has released a video that finally proclaims its arrival, slated for next week, June 10.
Thanks to pictures that surfaced on the Internet on New Year’s Day, we pretty much know exactly how the new 7er will look like; however, the new glimpses to the design are still welcome. Clear to see are the L-shaped headlights (which feature laser technology, a first on a regular non-i BMW), chrome trim on the Air Breather vents aft of the front wheels and kinked tail light graphics as seen on the facelifted 1 and 3 Series.
But it’s under the skin where the G11 will be a real leap forward. The addition of carbon fibre into the construction (BMW dubs this “Carbon Core”) enables the 7 Series to drop as much as 130 kg over its predecessor. There will also be standard all-round air suspension for the first time, a touchscreen iDrive display, gesture control and a remote parking feature that will get the car out of tight spots autonomously.
So, just over seven days to go, and we can’t wait to see how the new G11 BMW 7 Series squares off against its bitter rival and longtime benchmark, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Let the games begin!

The Future car. Awesome!!!!!
This car uses toyotol swanbag or Takata?
Probably won’t the S class on luxury, but it may beat in terms of dynamics.
Curious to see how the carbon core will help…
The S has been unbeatable in this segment for so long. It really stood as an icon of elegance and luxury, bar the Rollers and Bentleys. The 7 was a tech-fest for the longest time just that the last 2 models were quite mundane except for its controversial looks. It was ugly to many but it grew on me. The Lex LS is eerily quiet and comfortable but ‘funny’ to drive – when pushed to the limit, its comfy setting allows it to lean and roll a bit more, but there is massive grip from its tyre + suspension combo. Feels like an old Rolls Royce.
The Mercedes-Maybach’s take on S-class would elevate it into Rolls and Bent territory, though.
Ok, round one…carbody design – S Class win!
The S-Class has undoubtedly been the benchmark of the segment since two generations back. 7-Series is usually the more dynamic and fun-to-drive alternative. But the latest S-Class is such a tour de force, so the new 7-Series will have a mountain to climb. Funny that BMW have never been able to replicate the successes of 3- and 5-Series with the 7.
S-class is successful because majority that buy this type of car is old ah pek, so automatically they will go for S-class no matter what, not that S-class got anything special. For this segment if out of ah pek mentality it will go like this;
LS > 7 series > S-class.
Only tai lan ngong will buy this sui kwan kwai tai crap. Smart people will get the Lexus ES or Camry 2.5V.
Don’t hold your breath for it, you will likely be dissapointed.
Best pray that the Hybrid incentive carries on and more could get their hands on the S400 Hybrid.
This sam loo joke is getting a bit too old. It brings down the discussions a few notches in terms of intelligence.
As long as its not a kimchi, it will have RV.
