Unknown Honda sports car leaked – S2000 successor?

It appears Honda is working on a new mid-engined sports car – Dutch publication Autovisie has managed to uncover patent drawings of the mysterious vehicle while trawling through the US Patent and Trademark Office database.

From the show car details such as the slit-like headlights (that extend all the way down the grille, Concept D style), slim wing mirrors, huge rear diffuser and integrated exhaust tips, this appears to be a concept, with a black roof perhaps marking it out as some form of droptop.

At first glance, it looks to be some form of derivative of the new NSX (possibly a roadster variant), so similar is the front end and much of the proportions. However, so much of the design is different from the hybrid supercar that it’s more likely a standalone model.

One possible suggestion of what this car could be is a successor to the much-missed S2000, which would mean that the new car would ditch the front engine layout of the original.

Various reports from news sources such as Auto Express have indicated that the new car will indeed feature a mid-mounted powertrain – likely a hybrid setup involving a version of the Civic Type R‘s 310 PS 2.0 litre VTEC Turbo engine, as well as an electric motor. Whatever this thing turns out to be, we bet it’ll be a right ball of fun, and we can’t wait to see it come to fruition!

Well, well, well….. Honda is bringing in a special electric SH-AWD vehicle at the Pike’s Peak race in 2 weeks time – but hidden inside the shell of the current CR-Z. And unlike the normal CR-Z, it has air intakes just in front of the rear wheels, which suggests that it is mid engined. It will be a hybrid with AWD & all wheel steering.

Put two & two together, and the new S2000 could be the S2000 & hybrid CR-Z combined!! A RWD sports car hybrid. This is very interesting news indeed.

    • You chaps might have forgotten Honda NSX little brother. It’s a two seater, turbochaged mid engine, convertible, rear wheel drive car. It is called Honda Beat. A kei car grown up to be a sports car, that is what i call a step up in class.

I hope so, but I see some air vents around the door area, this car could be mid engined.

Honda claim the new NSX has a total output of 550 bhp…
I hope during launch they wound change the statement to 550 bhp from the twin turbo v6 alone (nismo gtr pushing 600 whutt) …

anyway , this looks like an awesome car….

Honda is letting its hair down again this season , from the mildly warm cr-z ,s660, NSX , type R
