The 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan has finally been captured with its new body – prior to this, spyshots have only pictured the car wearing the outgoing Tiguan‘s clothes. So while the test mule captured by our European carparazzi remains heavily-camouflaged, we can deduce that the next-gen Tiguan will be significantly larger than the outgoing PQ35 platform-based model.
As with most new Volkswagen models, the next-gen compact crossover will ride on the group’s MQB platform, one set to underpin most of VW’s future front- and all-wheel drive models. As such, expect the new car to weigh a tad less than the current Tiguan – a weight cut of around 100 kg has been reported.
In terms of its aesthetics, we’re going to have to wait for more revealing shots but for now, the new Tiguan does seem to resemble a scaled-down Volkswagen Touareg. According to reports, the new Tiguan has been elongated by about 55 mm while width has been allegedly increased by up to a whopping 100 mm.
Aside from using the Touareg as inspiration, the Volkswagen CrossBlue Concept appears to have also been employed as a model. The biggest link between said concept and the new Tiguan lies in the design of its front grille – horizontal bars appear to span the entire grille. The result is a bold, squared-off look that looks eerily familiar to the one seen on the CrossBlue.
At the rear, dual exhaust outlets are visible although this could very well be a dummy setup – not that we would object to a hi-po Tiguan. Speaking of performance, the new Tiguan is expected to arrive with a range of TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines. The range will likely kick off with a 2.0 litre TDI oil burner and a 1.8 litre TSI petrol mill. Rumour has it that an insane ‘R’ variant with close to 300 hp could feature.
Alternatively-powered variants will most likely feature a plug-in hybrid setup from the Volkswagen Golf GTE. Volkswagen has also confirmed that a roomier, seven-seater variant will be built at its facility in Mexico. Said variant will be intended for the North and South American market as well as the rest of the world, except Europe and China. No word on RHD variants, as well.
A 10-speed DSG gearbox could also make its debut in the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan, itself scheduled for a global appearance at the upcoming 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Additional reports are also indicating that the range could be augmented with the introduction of a “four-door” coupe-like variant.

Don’t worry. Tiguan can have new body but DSG is still the same faulty Borg Warner Unit. Good for global countries but cannot be used in hot countries and countries with massive traffic jams.
Once overheat, judder and stall.
The wet-clutch also will overheating?
did it means malaysia is hot country? what i’ve knew malaysia is wet and dry country, not hot country. what is related gearbox with weather and massive traffic jam?
Spot on VW, the current Tiguan is too tiny for my liking and judging by these shots, it has grown by quite a lot. So much so it looks like its going head on with the recently launched X1 which has also grown in space.
Some says the next Tiguan features seat at the 3rd row. I prefer is not…
