This year’s International Engine of the Year award goes to the 1.5 litre three-cylinder turbocharged hybrid engine in the BMW i8, finally ending the Ford 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine’s three-year reign.
The i8’s engine took home the coveted award with its 274 point score, placing it ahead of the Ford engine’s 267 points. The Ford engine retained its title in the Sub 1-Litre category while the BMW emerged top in the 1.4-Litre to 1.8-Litre category as well as the New Engine category.
The 1-Litre to 1.4-Litre category winner is PSA Peugeot Citroen’s new 1.2 litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine they’ve put in various cars like the 208, 308, DS3, C3 Picasso, C4 Cactus, C4 and DS4. The engine is available in two tunes – either 110 PS or 130 PS.
Mercedes-AMG’s 360 PS 2.0 litre turbocharged engine emerged champion in the 1.8-Litre to 2-Litre category. You’ll find this engine installed in the A 45 AMG, CLA 45 AMG and GLA 45 AMG.
Moving up a displacement size, the 2-Litre to 2.5-Litre category was won by Audi’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo engine found in the 367 PS Audi RS3 and 340 PS Audi RS Q3.
BMW’s new 3.0 litre twin-turbo six-pot engine powering the new M3 and M4 took the honours for the 2.5-Litre to 3-Litre category, ahead of another BMW 3.0 litre turbo engine, the non-M N55 found in cars like the 235i and 435i. In fact, this category was full of BMW engines, occupying four spots in the top six.
The 3-Litre to 4-Litre category was won by McLaren’s 3.8 litre V8 twin-turbo. For the Above 4-Litre category, Ferrari’s 4.5 litre V8 found in the 458 Italia and 458 Speciale took the top honours. Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Bmw pay to get this award don’t be fools Rakyat.
Proton Campro the real engine winner with new bops and hps comfirm from DrM himself !!!
Butt real hurts Mercedes salesman.
Why butt hurt?
Benz win car of the year and BMW win engine of the year.
All bodohs here. Minister already said, Proton is better than BMW and Volvo. So, if BMW won so many awards, this means Proton is the best engine in the world indirectly.
Our Ministers also say, our Universities at par or even better than Oxford. Only bodohs will pay money to go to OXford. Our UITM is better than Oxford University.
Education system means university?
So childish.
c’mon, did u stop growing-up? r u retarded..
Come on, no Campro?
Come on. Every year no 1.5L vvti ? This must be a fraud
Proton should aim to compete in this engine competition whey they make a new engine. not just to “create new engine”
because engine spec is one of the most important factor for someone to decide to buy the car.
Y no Toyota or Daihatsu engine? X blh pakai ka?
your r damm right. our CAMPRO engine shld get 399/400 points. others engine makan angin saja
BMW – Undisputed technology technology forefront in automobile.
Mercedes and Audi only can play catch up and me too approach.
BMW = Banyak Makan Wang (after a few years)..
That is what loser like you say.
BMW owners will say Best Man Win.
After 8 years, the BMW 3-liter twin-turbo still unbeaten by other make. That shows how superior BMW to other make.
Nissan & Toyota already produce In-Line 6 Twin Turbo Engines (Skyline GT-R & Supra), long before the M3..
So?? Are they on the list?? if not, then must be a not so good engine, get the hell out of here don’t come and talk grandmother story.
Sam Loo’s bullet proof D-4D engine is not listed?
Quite surprised in the 5 litre race, the Jaguar Land Rover 5.0 Supercharged is pretty far back….
Makes a good noise but it is time to probably get an all new design for their large engine…
Congrats BMW, well deserved award. Not only are the engines efficient and powerful, its silky smooth ZF 8 speeder is also a gem.
They should really give an award to these jurassic engines instead:
Perodua Myvi 1.3 L K3-VE (Since 2001!!! – Daihatsu_Storia)
Toyota Vios 1.5 L 1NZ-FE (Since 2002!!! – Vios 1st Gen)
Don’t forget the dinasaur 4-speed auto too!
No sushi… no kimchi.. no Ketupat
Very WESTERN-BIASED. Where’s Japanese engines??????????
where r the Japs/Koreans??? campro sure la cannot compete.. still loooooong way to go.
Where Sushi n kimchi engine !
Congrats to the winners, but I do think it’s a little bit biased towards western engines though,
The Skyactiv engines from Mazda for example are THE current benchmark of efficiency and power balance when it comes to NA engines and they are not even in the top 10 ….. or even the 3.3 Hyundai Lambda V6 Engine that is arguably the smoothest DI (DI are normally gruffy diesel like engines)in production right now.. (drove it extensively during my trip to US thanks to a friend) also fails to get a mention
…..while the Audi five cylinder whose basic design traces its roots to US market Volkwagen Rabbit from late 90’s and is way passed it in terms of power and efficiency (puts out a great sound though) still gets a mention..quite baffling
Not expecting the Asian examples i mentioned to win it but its quite surprising such great examples of engineering are not even given a mention..they should just call it ‘Western Engine Of The Year’ Awards at the rate it’s going….
Western dengki la tu, diorang tak bole tengok Asian OEMs beat diorang..
Where is toyota?
Or in NiTRO
