This video has interesting content for auto observers, but it was most probably unintended by the folks who created and posted the clip on Facebook. It shows ex-PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed flying a drone and surrounded by drone enthusiasts, possibly at the Perdana Leadership Foundation building in Putrajaya.

What’s in it for us? Behind the commotion sits a white sedan that’s pretty large in size, with a rear end that’s fully covered. The taped-up behind is a sign that it’s a car that’s being developed, with design that is not finalised. Parked in the “most VIP” spot in the building, could the mystery car be the new Proton Perdana brought there for, or used by, the Proton chairman? Speculation of course, but think about it.

perdana-phase-two

While the current Proton Perdana is nothing but a previous-gen Honda Accord with Proton badges for government official use, the second phase of development involves more work on a car that you and me can buy. DRB-Hicom group MD Tan Sri Khamil Jamil told us some time back that the public-use Perdana will have a new interior and exterior that will set it apart from the donor Accord.

The second-phase Perdana is scheduled for a 2016 release, and we’re expecting it to launch with Honda powertrains. Or will a new Proton-Petronas engine be ready by then? Proton acquired all of Petronas’ engine technologies and associated patents for RM63 million in 2012, and we were told last year that direct injection and turbo direct injection are among the acquired tech, and that they “can be applied to all engines.”

Current Proton Perdana – for government use only

Proton are improving the previous Accord market issue such as premature brake wear and headlight dimming. Gentle reminder to Proton designer, please don’t carryover the defective Takata airbag design.

Yeah, I wish to whack the fella that made decision to buy Accordana.

They should have bought a K5 or Sonata. That way, Tun will sell it off within a year and publish his kimchi experience in chedet.cc

The Honda Accord is way better than the Optima or the Sonata coz at least we can have a 2.4 litre engine. The Sonata and the Optima can only have 2.0 litre, jackass.

wrong. Most of them drive small Smarts, Fords, Opels, Renaults, Fiats and old Merc/BMW. Even a new Audi A1 is considered as expensive car. Most of them think that cars are just a tool and even the rich takes public transport despite having a car loool.

If it’s good, better than the accord plus cheaper, then why not? Just because it carries Proton badge doesn’t mean it’s bad. Proton is really stepping up in the game based on the current Iriz. Let us wait and see what Proton has to offer this time.

Let’s wait for the review. Don’t condemn for the sake of making noises. Constructive feedback would be a better approach. Most road accidents and death aren’t caused by soft body of a car or the lack of modern electronics. They’re caused by the drivers’ attitude.
    Ask ourselves these;
Is there a need to tailgate?
Signal lights, they’re to indicate your next action. They’re not festival lights, on once a year or so. There’re many more “couldn’t care less” attitude that causes accidents. Just stop creating and giving excuses and change for the better.

It is possible to build all techs in Proton. But the price will be higher.
Proton should serve the people of Malaysia first. Affordable car that every family should own. The fact now proton in other countries is much much much cheaper than the country of its own label, Malaysian buying proton using more money. Nevertheless that is how the Proton and Malaysia earn income for own product. Get the volume not the margin. Get the quality before quantity.

0 to 100 kmh in under 8 secs..
    6 airbags+,abs,ebd,traction control..
    leather seats.
5 yr warranty and free service…For most manufacturers, reasonable specs, but for proton,i doubt it.
