Speaking to CarAdvice, Volkswagen Australia confirmed that the German company will soon roll out a new SUV model to rival the likes of the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3. It will sit below the new-generation Tiguan, and it should give the Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, Suzuki Vitara, Fiat 500x and Jeep Renegade a real run for its money.
Apparently, this model will be a completely new model, separate from the upcoming up!-based Taigun SUV. The latter will be a smaller, budget offering to cater to specific markets in South America and India.
Meanwhile, the all-new Tiguan is expected to be unveiled later this year, and Volkswagen Australia expects it to boost SUV sales significantly as it will be offered in both five- and seven-seat body styles. John White, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Australia, confirmed that the Tiguan will have a normal wheelbase, longer than the current generation Tiguan and an even longer wheelbase for the optional seven seater.
Just in case if you were wondering about the gap between the Tiguan and the Touareg, White adds that a model based on the Cross Coupe GTE concept (pictured here) could sit in this segment, for buyers who are craving for something rather stylish and highly functional.

I’m guessing the HRV rival will be based on the Polo.
VWs are so expensive comparatively, who wants to buy….
VW can create a killer, 7 seater Crossover derived from Golf platform! Just sell it Rm120K range
Nissan beware! Juke & Qashqai are awesome but with using MQB platform it’ll be sublime.
if want 7 seat, not HRV market competing.
The 7 seater is gonna be the new Tiguan. Not this new HRV fighter
