Melaka caps state road speeds at 70 km/h until July 26

speed limit

Ahead of the expected increase in traffic volumes brought about by the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period, Melaka has announced that all state roads will be capped with a 70 km/h speed limit from today until July 26.

According to news reports, the state’s Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said that the speed limit was lowered from the normal 80 km/h to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the Hari Raya holidays.

“We gazetted the speed limit at today’s exco meeting, which means that motorists can be slapped with summonses if they violate the traffic regulation,” he said. The move is nothing out of the ordinary – the standard 80 km/h speed limit for all state roads nationwide is normally reduced to 70 km/h during festive seasons.

Likewise, the 90 km/h speed limit for federal roads is also reduced to 80 km/h during this period. No change for that of expressways, which remains at 110 km/h. The practice in reducing federal and state speed limits during festive seasons began in 2006.

whatever speed is set is useless as the enforcer do not practice equality..who is catching those speeding BUSes, Lorries, Trucks which all speed along the NKVE..

just setup from till KLIA everyday and you will see them racing happily from left to middle to left to middle to right over 120KM/hr.

    what JPJ, SPAD, Polis?

Ask anybody from outside Melaka who is staying in Melaka, Melaka’s drivers are most horrible…..why???
    1-Road Hogging
    2-Not giving signal
    3- Road weaving
4- Driving superbly slow ie. 30km/h
    5- Not wearing seatbelt

So, reducing the speed to 70kmh is no biggie….really….
