SPIED: Alfa Romeo Giulia in standard, non-QV form

Spy-Shots of Cars

The Alfa Romeo Giulia was revealed with much fanfare recently, but only in its full-fat 510 hp, BMW M3-chasing Quadrifoglio trim. Now, the more mainstream version has been spotted testing. It is quite obvious that there are significant differences at play here.

Gone are the fancy Active Aero Splitter, bonnet vents, beefy side skirts and bootlid spoiler. The sedate-looking alloy wheels are much smaller too. Round the back, the quad exhaust pipes on the QV is nowhere to be seen, replaced with a simple twin-pipe system instead.

Rumours are that the standard Giulia will have a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol or diesel unit – most likely reworked versions of those currently featured in the Giulietta hatchback. A semi-hot turbo-four with up to 300 hp has been bandied about too.

Most important to this new Alfa is its rear- or (optional) four-wheel drive layout, thereby setting itself apart from the front-wheel-driven 156 and 159. With such a layout, it is set to take on the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class head-on.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is expected to sport a six-speed manual as standard, and a dual-clutch automatic transmission as an option. The word on the street is that these more mainstream versions of the Giulia will not be seen till the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year.

Good design, without the need of design competition

Poor distributorship networks kill good Italian cars.

Question is, who will be the distributor for Alfa and Fiat cars here? I assumed it will be DRB Hicom.. since they are already importing Jeep..

Yes, it will most likely be DRB-Hicom. The FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) officials were in Malaysia to launch Jeep. FCA owns Alfa Romeo.
