GALLERY: 2015 Dodge Viper with enhanced handling

It is not known to be the easiest car to drive, with a naturally-aspirated 8.4 litre V10 engine and power figures that would make you cringe – 645 hp and 867 Nm of torque going to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. Even by American standards, it is a road-legal car that requires a lot of skill if you ever think of flooring it.

It’s no wonder then, that the latest 2015 Dodge Viper GT and Time Attack 2.0 Special Edition come with enhanced handling and creature comfort upgrades. As before, the GT sits above the baseline Viper SRT, and just one level below the Time Attack 2.0 Special Edition. The range-topper is the Viper GTS – excluding the ultra-hardcore Viper ACR.

All Vipers feature Brembo brakes, HID xenon lights with LED daytime running lights and keyless entry, while on the inside, the two-door is decked with a seven-inch customisable instrument display, an 8.4-inch touch-screen infotainment system and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

The GT variant gets red Brembo calipers with two-piece StopTech disc brakes, a two-mode sport suspension system and a five-mode ESC. Seats are in Nappa leather with Alcantara inserts, while the driver gets a six-way power adjustable seat. It also gets the Viper GTS’ bonnet with aggressive top vents.

Move up to the Time Attack 2.0 Special Edition and you get the optional “Aero Package,” which comprises of competition front lower dive planes and a big rear spoiler for better downforce. Two-piece Brembo disc brakes with black Brembo calipers and performance brake pads and “Sidewinder” rims shod in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres are added on too.

The top-of-the range GTS gets an 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, polished aluminium “Venom” wheels and “Laguna” leather seats with Alcantara headliner.

front-mid engined, 10 big cylinders, 2 valves/cylinder, no turbo nonsense, proper manual 6-speed and whatnot.
this is truly 1 heck of a car.

Sometimes I wonder if the Viper has gone off its roots. I remember seeing it the first time in the 1995 NAIAS.

It was crude, brash, and vulgar. And I loved it. So did the crowd.

If I wanted a good handling American sports car, there is always the Corvette.
