Renault Captur to be previewed at BSC from July 29

captur-teaser-web-3

We’ve been awaiting the arrival of the Renault Captur for a while now – the B-segment crossover was originally confirmed for the Malaysian market as early as April, with an expected market introduction in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Now, Renault Malaysia has launched a new website proclaiming the car’s upcoming local preview, set to take place at the Centre Court of Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) from July 29 to August 2. We’ve already been told that Malaysian cars will feature a 120 hp/190 Nm 1.2 litre turbocharged TCe engine, and it should be mated to a six-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission.

The segment is becoming increasingly crowded – the Captur should prove competitive against the equally-Gallic Peugeot 2008 and the Ford EcoSport, if not quite as strong as the runaway success that is the Honda HR-V, nor the forthcoming Mazda CX-3.

Renault’s offering could see its chances of success improve, however; the brand is expecting to introduce another locally-assembled (CKD) model next year, and the Captur is widely tipped to be one of the candidates. If so, the move could significantly lower the price to undercut much of the competition.

  • It shares some of its platform with the Nissan Juke BUT it’s really more related to the current Clio. This means that there’s no provision for all-wheel drive and so there are fewer structural mouldings intruding into the interior as a result.

  • Haven’t you been driving in the past year or so? Ever since Naza took over Citroen there’s more and more Citroens on the road. I see them more often than Infiniti. As for Renault, sales went up since they brought in the Fluence and sales are only going to go up from now with the introduction of the Captur.

I got my 1996 Fiat Brava when was imported by Ally Azran but they closed down years ago and Chrysler was never officially sold here.

  • Let’s see, the 2008’s 4 speed gearbox is ok in town but rubbish on the highway & it’s quite expensive but it does have lots of kit and 5 star EuroNCAP. The EcoSport’s gearbox is just crap, consumes a lot of fuel, not really good looking & the interior feels cheap but it is cheap. I don’t really like the HRV & I’m not going to wait 6 months for it. So that just leaves the CX3 and the Captur.

This will indeed be the most expensive 1.2-liter car in Malaysia. Then again the BMW i8 is the most expensive 1.5-liter car in the world! Hahaha

the dashboard looks like its an all hard-plastic affair…
and the design is lagging behind rivals…

Hopefully the price will be very attractive. Seeing the Fluence is at Rm125k, the Captur should be priced slightly lower

  • But BMW 1.5 i8 hybrid is very powerful car while Captur 1.2 TC is not very responsive…hope it shud be powered by 1.6 TC if not CX3 is the winner for this SUV B segment category…

They better introduce this as CKD and with attractive pricing right away. No point intro it as CBU and hefty price tag. TCEAS would do well to ride the B-segment SUV wave currently (finally) hitting our shore.

Looking at how people craze for the HR-V, I think this is a chance of a lifetime for them to bring Renault closer to the mix.

Captur is the clear leader of B-segment SUV in Europe. It should do well here if configured and priced right.

Well, just a pinch of worry about the EDC gearbox. Feedback said the 6-speed EDC is silky smooth, hopefully it will stay that way and not hampered by overheating problem (one of most common auto gearbox problem) etc.

I will be speechless if they screw this up.

As long as distribute & ckdised by tan chong, the result is low quality & low features. By comparing between new xtrail & crv, u will notice the different of quality.

haha…hope u read what u have written again & again. perhaps it could be the milk u have been drinking. Renault sales have improved steadily ever since they brought in the RS250 in 2010, I believe. Was never a follower of Renault till i owned the RS250. Never looked back since. High maintenance cost and expensive parts are a myth. Hell, which car parts are cheap, really. It all boils down the individual’s passion for ownership drive. THe Fluence is even better specced than the Japs of the same class. Go try one, whichever model. Resale value only hits the owner when he decides to put himself in the market looking for a new car. If not, u are not subject to resale value. Just sharing my views, and standing by it.

    • Totally agree with ya on this. We only think of resale value when you want to sell a car however if the car is good, there’s no point selling it. I mean a typical mid-income family will change a car probably once every 5-10 years. I have own a Vios for 8 years and so far had provided a good service for me. No complains there. Since the boom of the SUV, I’m probably looking forward to this Captur. Exterior looks nice thou.
