New Mitsubishi Triton goes on the Red Peak Adventure

The Mitsubishi Red Peak Adventure

The Mitsubishi Red Peak Adventure is back! This time, with more adrenaline and more fun! Catch a glimpse of what we have in store for you right here!

The Mitsubishi Red Peak Challenge is back, and the star in the sequel is the new Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck. Set up by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) last year to show off the climbing ability of its 4X4 vehicles, the Red Peak Challenge revolves around a lorry which brings a mobile obstacle course around the country.

But the video above, which MMM says offers “a glimpse of what we have in store for you” promises more action. The 2:39 video starts with the new Triton being launched from the Red Peak lorry, going on to negotiate slaloms and jumps, before getting into 4WD mode for gravel and water crossings. The video portrays the Triton as an all-conditions athlete, dramatically and successfully.

Launched here in May, the new Triton is is available in five variants – Triton VGT Adventure (AT only), Triton VGT AT, Triton VGT MT, Triton MT and Triton Quest (4X2 MT only) – priced from RM67,604 to RM108,274.

The top VGT Adventure seen here is powered by a 2.5 litre variable geometry turbo diesel engine with 178 PS and 400 Nm. Standard kit includes steering shift paddles, HID headlamps with LED DRLs, dual-zone auto air con, auto headlamps and wipers, cruise control, leather, keyless entry/push start, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen head unit Bluetooth, voice command and reverse camera.

Check out our walk-around video and gallery below to view the Triton from all angles.

Nice. But i challenge Mitsu to try the Miri – Bario journey of ultimate, 12 hour hair-raising, back breaking off-road adventure. So far Hilux proven to be champ with the likes of Ranger, Navara, BT50 licking wounds. Dmax n Colorado no guts at all to climb there.

Well, to be honest we cannot judge according to just a model from a brand. Taking DMAX for example, top models with ESC & TCS are totally different than the lower variant with permanent lock diff. The way it takes those road is totally different although the same brand. Even ford Ranger also the same. So maybe you can explain which models weaker on those roads instead just blame the whole brand is less capable. From my experiences I think VSC equipped vehicles has less ability to take those hard roads as it require time to engage the differential. But on road, VSC vehicles are very much stable than conventional lock differential pick ups.

If an offroad competition requires extensive modifications, then it’s not really brand vs brand already. Some of the trails in Borneo are truly grueling. It’s difficult for stock 4wd’s to tackle.

      VARIABLE GEOMETRY TURBO (VGT)
The VGT engine in the All-New Triton delivers power and efficiency by optimizing turbo charging at all speeds thus allowing the Triton to achieve the maximum possible output.
