The new Kia Optima will be making its European debut at the Frankfurt show next month, and Kia’s announcement of the D-segment sedan included a mention that a wagon version is in the works.
“The all-new Kia Optima range will be developed further in future, with the addition of a new body style, inspired by the Kia Sportsspace concept car shown at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show,” the statement read.
So yes, the very nice Kia Sportspace concept has been green lighted for production, although we’re expecting the finished article to look slightly less showy and incorporate elements from the production new Optima. Good news for Europe and wagon fans here, which are currently served by the Mazda 6 Touring, Peugeot 508 SW and Hyundai i40 Tourer in the segment.
The fourth-gen Kia Optima made its debut at the New York show in April. With this new model, Kia is promising a new interior with better materials, more space for every passenger (10 mm longer wheelbase, 25 mm wider, 10 mm taller), a 50% stronger bodyshell, new active safety tech (Smart Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist System, High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert) and more agile handling, among other things.
In Europe, the Optima will come with an upgraded 1.7 litre CRDi diesel engine with 141 PS (up from 136 PS) and 340 Nm (up from 325 Nm). Max torque is now available from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm, offering better drivability over the previous 2,000-2,500 rpm. It also emits 14% less CO2 to 110 g/km. The CRDi is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Most will go for the diesel, but there’s also a 163 PS 2.0L petrol engine.
Coming next year is a plug-in hybrid electric Optima, as well as Kia Europe’s first high performance sedan. The latter should be the GT-badged car seen earlier this month.

Got RV??
W-O-W.
Tastefully created .
reminds me of the alfa 159 GTA wagon, nice design
More power needed though…the 2.0 turbo motor from Hyundai at 180kw would fit the bill nicely…the design is nice and coupled with the aforementioned motor…where do I sign up?
this is one very nicely designed car.
if the tech, performance and quality can match BMW, while still maintaining the price… this will be the real German killer.
Looks to me like a Kimchi Ferrari FF hehehee
