GALLERY: Mercedes-Benz V-Class V220 CDI previewed, price to be confirmed soon

The Mercedes-Benz V-Class is now in Malaysian showrooms in V220 CDI guise. It’s currently on preview while pricing is being finalised.

And yes, we’re talking about Mercedes-Benz Passenger Car showrooms here as the previous generation passenger Vito is sold by the Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle dealer Nusa Otomobil.

The V220 CDI is powered by a 2.1 litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine, which in the line-up sits between the 200 CDI and the 250 BlueTec. In this particular 220 CDI tune, it produces 163 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels via a seven-speed auto.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is treating the V-Class as an indent order car so you can order it in whatever specs you want, as long as you take the V220 CDI because that’s the engine variant that’s homologated.

Left: three-seater third row, Right: two-seater third row.

The black and white units you see here have different specs. The white is a six-seater (three rows of two seats) without power doors but has a 360 view camera. The black unit has three seats for the third row, has no 360 view camera but has power doors. Second and third row seats use manual adjustment.

Both specs on the showroom floor have the sportier Avantgarde exterior look, a power boot and ride on 18 inch alloy wheels wrapped with 245/45R18 tyres. We also noticed front seat heating has been specced.

Families will be glad that ISOFIX child seat points are available on all second and third row seats for the six-seater variant, and on two of the third row seats (driver side and middle seats) for the seven-seater. The two middle row seats can be independently turned around to face rear-wards for a living room feel.

We’re expecting confirmed pricing to be released next week so stay tuned. In the meanwhile take a closer look at the V220 CDI in our gallery below.

      Maybe the Private Hospital:
should invest this V-class Benz Van as Ambulance to serve the Elite Customer.

Now people will have more choice when shopping for a big MPV as the Alphard/Vellfire’s Euro cousin is finally here. Hopefully the price will be okay…

Yeah, as the Thais have enough problems with bombs outside already, they don’t want a bomb inside the car (like Toyota’s shrapnel airbags).

      Well… looks are subjective.
But since you don’t agree on the looks, I still prefer the V220 despite how ugly both the Alphard/Vellfire is. Not to mention the 2015 versions where they both look like Transformers on wheels.

Cool, finally Mercedes is bringing in the v class. Price I’m guessing around 450k

  • This is definitely not alphard / elgrand contender. The price itself will be so much higher than a brand new alphard / elgrand simply because of the brandname. However, hopefully, i’m just wrong on this.

I wonder if VW would bring in their Transporter or Carevelle van to Malaysia since Merc is gonna do it soon.

This V-class has no direct competitors from BMW and Audi (and its Q7 with tiny little interior space).
The price I guess will be near to X5 and Q7.

Brand is more important than many other things when space is equal or larger.

If you don’t like the price, stick to your Alphard and Elgrand then.

Obviously the main pick is the V-Class. Why pick the mainstream when you can go for something rare and better when you have the money.

      • I already have a 5 month old C250 CGI, 4 year old Pug 308T, a 10 year old Estima MCR30 and even a 7 year old Savvy AMT. I would probably consider brand new Elgrand or V-class as well, if i really need something that big which I’m not at the moment.

This is the biggest problem for me about the V class. Saw it overseas, initially I thought it was the Nissan NV200 instead, cause the rear corner just looks so similar in design, until I noticed the higher roof and larger size.

The V class can technically compete with the Alphard, cause the interior of this just looks much better than the Alphard. Having said that, one cannot overlook the fact that the Alphard doesn’t look half as bad as the rear, the smallish rear lights remind me of a Peugeot Tepee Expert that Naza uses as their Peugeot Servicemobile.

Adding body kit with day lights, better entertainment system will look really awesome. This model looks the same as 2008 Vellfire without body kit.
Additional interior lighting will make it look even better.

The standard Mercedes-Benz ‘intelligent’ drive has safety systems, among them electronic help with steering in a crosswind, staying awake and parking.
