From noon onwards this Wednesday (September 9), motorists will no longer be able to conduct cash transactions at toll plazas on three highways, The Star reports. The highways involved are the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE) and the Storm Water Management And Road Tunnel (SMART). All collections will be done via Touch ‘N Go or SmartTag devices.
The affected toll plaza along the AKLEH highway is the Datuk Keramat plaza while the one along the SMART tunnel is located in Sungai Besi. As for the plazas on the DUKE highway, the affected plazas are Batu, Ayer Panas and Sentul Pasar.
“Currently, the cash lanes allow about 300 vehicles per hour, while the Touch n’ Go and Smart Tag lanes allow 550 and 1,200 vehicles per hour respectively,” commented Malaysian Highway Authority deputy director-general, Datuk Aziz Abdullah, on a study that showed the effectiveness of fully electronic toll plazas on cutting down congestion. Said study showed an improvement on traffic flow by as much as “20% to 30%.”
Operators have been stationed at the respective plazas to cater to motorists without the necessary electronic payment cards – Touch N’ Go cards will be sold at RM5 per piece. Also, motorists can purchase their SmartTAG devices at a rate of RM99 per unit at booths located along the AKLEH and DUKE highway.

I wonder if the Touch & Go system now can detect if you are on 4 wheels or 6 wheels or so.
Smart tag is not even solar chargeable.
Work and think harder before stupidly upgrade.
I see all the lorry hitting the smart tag and touch n go on top of the lanes signs all the time. I think they use the class 1 card.
