Need a car that you can safely operate through a war zone? You’re in luck – the new Audi A8 L Security has just been revealed prior to its physical debut at the upcoming 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. In fact, you can even waltz down to the showroom now as order books for the “most secure Audi ever” are already open.

As expected of most owners who purchase a bulletproof vehicle, attention isn’t exactly high on the list of priorities – the result is a car that would look like any other run-of-the-mill long wheelbase Audi A8. It’s a different story underneath as Audi A8 L Security boasts numerous features that allow it to satisfy the requirements of VR 9-class resistance levels. The outgoing A8 L Security is class VR 7-certified.

The safety cell of the Audi A8 L Security is fortified with aramid fabric, “special aluminium alloys and hot-formed steel. Each car is manufactured individually under Audi’s supervision in its Neckarsulm plant and a “secure, top-secret factory.” The list of standard equipment includes an armoured communication box in the boot, an intercom system to communicate with the outside world and “selective door unlocking.”

Additionally, owners can option their cars out with Audi’s patented emergency exit system and built-in fire extinguishers as well as an emergency ventilation system that allows for oxygen to be pumped into the cabin. As each unit is built according to the requests of a particular client, Audi will be able to incorporate a plethora of features to improve the level of comfort and/or safety.

Under the bonnet, the Audi A8 L Security is powered by a choice of two engines – a biturbo 4.0 litre TFSI V8 engine or a naturally-aspirated W12 FSI mill. The former puts out a total of 435 hp and 600 Nm of torque while the larger engine produces 500 hp and 625 Nm of twist – both models are limited to 210 km/h to preserve the run-flat tyres. Power is diverted to all four corners via Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system.

Thanks to an aluminium-intensive construction, the Audi A8 L Security is relatively light for its class. With that said, the vehicle possesses a maximum payload of 600 kg, which Audi touts as “the best figure in the competitive field.” Delivery of the Audi A8 L Security is slated to begin in April 2016.
