BMW Malaysia has released a sole teaser image on its Facebook page. Said image could very well hint at the arrival of the BMW X5 xDrive40e plug-in hybrid SUV on Malaysian shores in the near future – although it has to be said that the brand is being cheeky about it by not mentioning the model at all. The accompanying caption of “Mobility gets an electrifying makeover” is all there was to be found.
So how did we arrive at the conclusion that it was said plug-in hybrid model? Well, if one took a closer at the bottom most image in the teaser mosaic, one will most likely be able to trace out the silhouette of a BMW X5. As mentioned, no other information was divulged along with the teaser – expect morsels of information to surface as time goes on.
To recap, the BMW xDrive40e plug-in hybrid is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 litre B48 four-cylinder petrol engine coupled to a synchronous electric motor. Total power output is rated at 313 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The powertrain is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission with grunt going to all four wheels via the marque’s xDrive permanent all-wheel drive system.
Straight line performance includes a 0-100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 210 km/h. A purely electric operational range of 31 km has been touted along with a top speed of 120 km/h in EV mode. So while we wait for an official announcement, do check out our review of the car right here.

CKD @ 300k..sure selling like hot kuih
BMW may be on to something here.
If they CKD this thing and put this right at the 400k mark, that is the end of the medium sized premium SUV market. Why buy a Q5, Evoque, and to a certain extent, a Macan when you can get a bigger car, with the 5 year worry free warranty and service, for the same price?
But this is if, and only if, it comes at 400k or so.
ok, CKD wth RM360k, done deal, BMW, give me my car.
HP and torque are higher than 35i but why 0-100 km/h time is slower??
Guys the CKD exemptions are ending in December unless BMW has secured some sort of agreement with the government to sell this model at a cheaper price.
We’ll have to see what happens next since this model is technically more expensive than its petrol n diesel counterparts no thanks to all its technocraft in it.
