MyTeksi has announced that it has introduced number masking in Malaysia, which it says will enhance safety for both drivers and passengers – the feature allows for completely anonymous calls between drivers and passengers to ensure extra security and privacy for both parties.
Here’s how it works – when a booking for a taxi or car is made via the MyTeksi app, both driver and passenger have the option to call via the app. If a call is made, both parties will be automatically connected via a virtual number – personal mobile numbers will no longer be displayed to ensure privacy.
Drivers and passengers can call via the same virtual number once the booking is confirmed until the ride ends or is cancelled, and this feature also applies to advanced bookings. Passengers can of course choose not to call, and continue to leave specific pick-up instructions to drivers via the ‘Notes to driver’ feature when making a booking with the app.
The measure is part of the platform’s US$6 million investment drive to improve customer safety across the region – locally, the company states that its commitment to safety has been recognised by women in Malaysia; it says eight out of 10 women acknowledge that taxis are safer now than before MyTeksi was available, and seven out of 10 women polled by the service said they feel safer taking taxis at night.
The number masking feature, which begins running today, is being progressively rolled out to users in Singapore and Malaysia, and will be available to all MyTeksi app users in these markets by end-October.
The feature will be implemented in Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam by November. To access the feature, users need to download or update to the latest version of the MyTeksi app from Google Play or App Store.

This is good, really.
If only Myteksi can work with police, filter out those with criminal records and outstanding summonses. That would make our environment a safer place to be in. Also, to teach those teksi drivers that good manners equals income.
they had to do this cause too many complains by women that the teksi driver called them after the ride. Most of them are perverts, see pretty woman, cannot tahan, must call them after the ride.
I am amazed, even with Malam Jumaat also, they still cannot tahan seeing a woman in their car.
The app can beam a cheese cake infront of me for all i care. Problem is the cabs are run down and the driver attitude can be shocking. Hmmmm….maybe I’ll the cake after all….
If I accidently leave something in taxi after reaching destination, how to call back? When boarding taxi, how do we know that the driver is the one who registered with MyTaxi. Better to display the face of taxi drivers. How to call back the same taxi if we like their services but not available in app
