Renault Alaskan – production Nissan NP300 Navara-based pick-up truck rendered, looks handsome

Our resident rendering wizard Theophilus Chin has put his Photoshop tools to work again, this time visualising what a production Renault Alaskan pick-up truck could look like, based on the Frankfurt concept.

And since the the Alaskan is essentially a remodelled version of the Nissan NP300 Navara, it’s a simple case of grafting the Renault face on the bones of the new Japanese pick-up, and adding a few production-friendly touches. Thankfully, the whole thing hangs together well, and retains the concept’s handsome good looks.

There are a few changes made, such as a switch to regular projector headlights, the deletion of the concept’s C-shaped LED fog lights (replaced by chrome trim and simple circular fogs) and less far-fetched door mirror and door handle designs. Standard side steps have also been added.

The production version of the Alaskan, due in the first half of next year, will be built alongside the NP300 Navara and Mercedes-Benz’s more upscale offering at Nissan’s Spanish plant in Barcelona and in Renault’s plant in Cordoba, Argentina, although the NP300 Navara is also being built at a new RM437 million facility in Samut Prakan, Thailand for the ASEAN and Australasian region.

Mechanically, the Alaskan is said to feature a twin-turbo diesel engine that promises to be lighter than most equivalent oil burners and provide “outstanding acceleration performance, plus class-topping fuel economy and low CO2 emissions.” This is likely the YS23 2.3 litre dCi mill that’s also used in the NP300 Navara in Euro 5-compliant markets; there, it makes 188 hp at 3,750 rpm and 450 Nm from 1,500 to 2,500 rpm.
