The 2016 Hyundai Tucson has been previewed at a roadshow at the Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya, Penang. With the third-generation SUV officially on show now, we reckon it isn’t going to be long before the car is officially launched in Malaysia – perhaps an early to mid-November launch?
Whatever the exact date may be, there’s no denying that the 2016 Hyundai Tucson will be a breath of fresh air amongst the competition with its contemporary styling. For starters, the car pictured here appears to be a top-spec model – chrome accents framing the front grille and the presence of LED daytime running lights (DRL) seem to confirm its rank. Note that previous sightings of the car showed a lesser variant sans DRL.
Also, the lower front end appears to feature a silver-coloured skid plate – the same treatment is echoed on the side skirts and rear bumper. In profile, silver door handles and five twin-spoke wheels complete the look. Moving on to the rear, twin exhaust outlets are to be found embedded into the aforementioned silver bumper while a closer peak shows the presence of a reverse camera.
Elsewhere, an ‘Executive’ badge is be found above another denoting the size of the engine under the bonnet. For the US market, the 2.0 litre Nu inline-four petrol mill puts out a total of 164 hp and 205 Nm of torque. Transmission should be a six-speed automatic as the seven-speed dual-clutch unit is only reserved for the 1.6 litre turbocharged engine – an engine Malaysian buyers might not be getting.
Unfortunately, we will have to settle for mere glimpses of the interior as the show car was locked. A peek reveals a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and a five-inch touchscreen LCD display. Goes without saying then, that the seats should be trimmed in a similar material – expect the lower end models to (potentially) forgo the multifunction steering wheel.
So what will it be, ladies and gents – will you choose the 2016 Hyundai Tucson over the likes of the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sportage? Those who fall into the former category and are seriously considering signing on the dotted line for one, head on over here to register your interest!

Looks good but that silver trim is too bling bling for me. Hopefully it won’t come with the typical Sime Darby spec (empty).
This Hyundai will put a nail to Camry and Altis coffin cause the inside is as big as a Camry.
In overseas, Toyota is highly respected. But in Malaysia, Toyota now has become a laughing stock. If you buy one, people secretly laugh at you thinking you are the dumbest person in town cause the Toyota is heavily stripped of its safety features. Now somemore, Picanto, comes with 6 airbags and can be safer than a Camry!
Malaysians already now know how Toyota has been cheating people. Until today, even RM150k Camry got no VSC and only 2 airbags. Paultan already wrote long article how vital VSC is 3 years ago and yet UMW don’t care a damn for our lives.
Global price of Camry with 10 airbags and VSC is US$22,000. Besides VSC and 10 airbags, the global Camry has about 20 other safety features that is NOT in our Camry. These features are standard and free on the global Camry.
UMW don’t care about your life. You die or vegetable, they don’t care, janji untung lebih. They take out safety features to save cost. Yet, they charge us 3x the global price of US$22k. We buy for RM180k a heavily stripped down car. Same with Altis. Same with Vios.
Worse still, it is CKD and Made in Malaysia. The price is even cheaper. If US Toyota is sold at US22k and still make a profit, you can bet that UMW will get this car at country distributor price of US15k. CKD it, it will be US$12k (about RM40k). But they sell to Malaysians for RM180k.
Camry Hybrid even better. US$26k. Come to Malaysia no tax. But sold for RM175k
I don’t care what people say, now, we UMw salesman, we do side business besides our UMW job. As for me, I now sell ladies undergarments in Parkson. Any PT reader wants discounts on panties and bra, pls come to me. Dont shy shy
u have G-string with semi see-through front?
We are talking on Hyundai Tucson, not Toyota. And your grammar very bad.
It is empty.. DAM
Korean cars no thanks
Hot cake~
Hopefully no more fake Sam Loo comment on this post…
Dun worry, his RBA john dupe will come in soon enough
Bro, jom tidur, jangan bangun. Kerajaan akan tolong anda
lawa tapi kimchi takde value la
You guys are so worried about RVs. If you’re buying a car for a short period of time, don’ think about it. We buy cars for the long run until it’s time to change and don’t think about RV. Fact, you can buy a Toyota and you can keep saying to yourself this car’s RV is the best in the market while driving when others on the road are avoiding Toyota and driving better spec’d cars, not to mention better safety.
Toyota RV now worse than Hyundai. Go check in Mudah, oto, and carlies. It is lower than kimchi cause everybody also now want VSC and more airbags.
2013 Alts 1.8 now can get for RM65k. New Altis is RM139k. Apa lagi mahu cerita?
Camry 2.5 2014 model now selling RM98k. Brand new Rm180k. RV jatuh RM82k in 11 months
i hate the silver bling-bling garnish
based from last spyshot, the lower spec doesn’t come with it
use polarizing lens filter to minimize the mirror reflection…
their choose the wrong colour car for display… bad move. it should be in dark silver colour to make the car more outstanding.
You call that Top Spec? Wheres the LED headlight? Wheres the 19″ alloy? And why do you want to put those hideous after market skid plate.
This is the Mid Spec Executive 4×2. The Top spec is 4×4 and will come with Panoramic Sunroof.
Yea heard from SA this is Exec Plus trim abd there will be a top-of-the-range Premium trim. Not sure the spec though
new tucson or cx-5 facelift? which one is better?
CX-5 has been around for few years and only minor changes in facelift. Feel bored with its look. The lack of rear aircond also make me hesitate to choose the CX-5
I wonder if they are going to launch a base spec model at 100k just to compete with the HRV…
u must be seriously shortsighted to have considered a korean car. this price point, cx5 or crv won’t go wrong.
Did not see the sunroof from the top. Maybe not a top spec for this one.
If come with full specs + all the safety features, i guess is a good car to buy as the car safety is top notch in recent crash test.
looks great . that color is very classy!
but i still feel , when push come to shove , its the cx5/crv who will be bought…when will korean cars get rid of their stigma??
hmmm.. no thx.
Like I said before, turbo with auto transmission and price around 100k, only then got chance to fight hrv
Can’t wait for this baby to sit in my garage and accompany my first generation Tucson!
Kia Sportage is better
Hyundai. 1.6T comes with all the bell and whistle, i’ll get one if not bye bye..
