Petrolheads all over the world are rejoicing the reveal of a new baby M car, the F87 BMW M2 Coupe. It has all the ingredients we look for in a performance BMW – compact dimensions, an aggressive wide-stanced look, a powerful straight-six engine, rear-wheel drive, a no-nonsense chassis and, bless, the option of a manual transmission.
Now, BMW M has released a new video that goes in-depth into the creation of the pumped-up 2 Series – you’ll hear the people behind its gestation talk about what it was like to bring such a focused sports car to life, including the challenges the Leipzig factory will face in producing the M2, come its on sale date in April.
To recap, the M2 is powered by an uprated 3.0 litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine that develops 370 hp and 465 Nm; torque surges up to 500 Nm on overboost. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed M DCT (dual-clutch transmission); pick the latter and it shoots from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, before hitting the limiter at 250 km/h (270 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package).
Under the skin, there’s a revamped chassis with lightweight aluminium front and rear axles, aluminium suspension struts and a tubular anti-roll bar. Other M-specific goodies include an Active M Differential, M compound brakes, M Dynamic Mode, a rev-matching mode for the manual transmission, and oversteer-reducing Stability Clutch Control (SCC), Launch Control and a Smokey Burnout function for the M DCT.

Well for starters the rest of the world didn’t compare the M2 with any of the vehicles u listed above. The closest thing they did compare with was the Audi A3 RS and that’s another cracker.
