Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) has announced the introduction of six new routes for its Electric Train Service (ETS). Trains began plying the Gemas-Padang Besar, Gemas-Butterworth and Butterworth-Padang Besar routes on October 10, the rail operator said.

A ticket on the Gemas-Padang Besar service costs RM102, while that for the Gemas-Butterworth route is priced at RM83. A ticket on the Butterworth-Padang Besar service, meanwhile, costs RM29. On the Gemas to Padang Besar express route, scheduled stops are KL Sentral, Ipoh, Kamunting, Butterworth and Alor Setar.

The rail operator said that along with the introduction of its new ETS routes, it had restructured the scheduling of its train services, including that of the KTM Intercity.

Back in July, it was reported that KTM was looking to collaborate with regional and local low-cost airlines flying to the northern region in a bid to improve connectivity to its KL-Padang Besar ETS service. The rail operator had said to fully utilise the ETS, it would be offering door-to-door service to airline passengers commuting to their destinations in order to attract more domestic and international tourists.

  • train is one of the safest mode of transports. I hope the frequency will be increased in future so that people will have more options during hari raya or chinese new year etc. and furthermore will reduce number of cars on the road during said festival holidays.
