Happen to find the 2015 Mazda 2 a little bit too tame in the looks department? If so, we’ve got good news for you – customers who sign on the dotted line for either the hatch and sedan variant of the Mazda 2 will be presented with the option to add on a complimentary “Sports” bodykit.

Unfortunately, individuals with a penchant for more power will have to look elsewhere as the upgrades are purely cosmetic. A quick stop at the Mazda showroom in Glenmarie revealed just the hatch model decked out in said bodykit. The sedan version will feature pretty much the same add-ons.

Up front, the “Sports” bodykit adds on a front bumper skirt in gloss black while side skirts finished in the same colour are to be found in profile. No changes to the wheels, though – it still soldiers on with the same two-tone 16-inch wheels wrapped in Dunlop Enasave EC300+ tyres. At the rear, the bumper receives a contrasting body-coloured diffuser-like element along with a stainless steel exhaust outlet.

Right above sits a rather large tailgate spoiler – again, finished in the same gloss black colour. Popping open the tailgate reveals a stylised boot tray. The cabin remains as it is with no changes whatsoever. The “Sports” kit on the sedan differs only with the exclusion of said diffuser-like element, which in turn, is replaced by a mildly redesigned rear bumper.

While it was mentioned that the entire bodykit is complimentary with every purchase, the bits and bobs will continue to be on sale in the future when the promotion has ended. The “Sports” bodykit retails for RM2,300 on the hatch while the same treatment on the sedan goes for RM2,370 – the stainless steel exhaust outlet is sold separately at a price of RM70. The boot tray is priced at RM130.

The 2015 Mazda 2 is powered by a 1.5 litre direct-injection SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine with 114 hp at 6,000 rpm and 148 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Power gets diverted to the front wheels via a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission. More recently, the CBU-from-Thailand Mazda 2 gets three new colours added to the roster – Dynamic Blue Mica, Smoky Rose Mica and Black Mica.

To recap, the 2015 Mazda 2 retails for RM85,466 inclusive of on-the-road (OTR) costs sans insurance – both the hatch and sedan model cost the same. The retail price of the bodykits is reasonable enough since it is Mazda. Stupid gear up kits for Axia starts from RM2200 even with “promo” package. What a rip-off.

Don’t know. Did they overturn your case concluding that it lacked substance and was delusional?
