UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has successfully raised RM327,000 via its 26th Toyota Classics event to further boost wildlife conservation efforts. The annual CSR (corporate social responsibility) event was led with performances by The Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre troupe. Also in attendance were the Japanese ambassador, His Excellency Dr. Makio Miyagawa and the Hungarian ambassador, Attila Kali.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to the various contributors from corporate companies as well as individual donors who have donated generously and towards this cause as we continue to fuse beautiful music and corporate social responsibility,” said Akio Takeyama, deputy chairman of UMWT.
The beneficiaries for this year include the Borneo Conservation Trust, the Malaysian Nature Society and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Malaysia. The former received a Toyota Fortuner while the latter two were presented with mock cheques of RM77,000 by the Sultan of Selangor on behalf of UMWT.
“We have seen the good works done by these NGOs in preserving and conserving wildlife in Malaysia. Their unrelenting effort and commitment have impressed us, and we are happy to support their noble causes by channelling the proceeds from this year’s Toyota Classics so that they can continue protecting Malaysia’s wildlife,” commented president of UMWT, Datuk Ismet Suki.
