The BMW i model lineup is currently comprised of the all-electric i3 and the plug-in hybrid i8 sports car. However, a third model could soon join the i family after company CEO, Harald Krueger, revealed to German publication Die Ziet.
Krueger said, “we will bring in an addition to the BMW i3 soon, another electric i model on the market.” No further details were disclosed about the new model from BMW’s i division, aside from the fact that it will be larger than the i3.
We previously reported on the possibility of a new i model that sits between the i3 and i8, possibly dubbed the i5. Reports then indicated that the BMW i5 would be offered in either an all-electric or plug-in hybrid version.
According to Krueger, strong demand for BMW i cars has spurred the Munich-based carmaker to go for this new development. “The i3 is the world’s third in the sales rankings for electric vehicles,” he said.
Advancements in technology will also be applied to the current i models within three or four years, whereby Krueger said an increased range on a full battery charge is possible, without the increase in battery weight.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
They should make a car with a drivetrain of a fisker Karma where the engine is only used to charge the batteries.
Had this one coming from a mile away only issue is whether it will be a sedan or SUV but looking at market trends the SUV option might be more viable. Just hoping it won’t be as heavy as those Tesla models.
Until we have breakthrough in battery technology, we will be stuck with the current heavy & bulky solution.
look like intel processor range, i3, i5, i7…
Why did they follow this naming scheme though? Even (some) Intel engineers thought this was a stupid naming scheme.
They can name it anything they like.
because when a phone named i3,i5,i6 it can sell millions..
wonder if the next ‘ i ‘ will be recalled as well for faulty airbags like the i3

I see logic has failed you. This can happen to any car. Why are you acting like this has never happened to any model and brand before? Plus this i5 is in development. Why would they move the same faulty stuff over after a recall had taken place?
Our Protong already own i-model of => iRIZ!
only can survive if they can make it EV…
