The Borneo Safari is now off to an adventurous start. To mark the beginning of the eight-day journey, a Isuzu D-Max, which will act as the event’s official media vehicle, has led the flag-off. The Silver Jubilee edition of the off-road event recently started on October 25, and will come to an end on November 1.
Leading a total of 250 vehicles in a convoy, the safari started from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. All vehicles, including the Isuzu D-Max, will weather harsh terrain travelling into the highlands near Tenom and Keningau. Executive director of Isuzu Malaysia Hajime Machimura said, “for close to a decade, the media corps has been able to keep pace with the progress of the event from the cockpits of the official media Isuzu D-Max.”
Having gained two “Borneo Safari Vehicle of the Year” titles previously, Machimura further added, “these vehicles have long risen beyond trying to prove their abilities in the rough and instead, have established themselves as a fixture of the Borneo Safari where they are depended upon to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.”
It has been nine years since the Isuzu D-Max first participated in the Borneo Safari as the event’s official vehicle. The three media trucks – one with a 3.0 litre engine and two others with a 2.5 litre turbodiesel engine, have been fitted with minor modifications for the event. This includes mud-terrain tyres, body and engine protection as well as electric winches.
