VIDEO: 2016 B9 Audi A4 Sedan and Avant walk-around

The new Audi A4 is an impressive piece of kit. Although some would snigger and say that there’s nothing impressive about a “facelifted B8”, the B9 is all-new from the platform up and the restrained, evolutionary styling is wholly intentional on Audi’s part. The new A4 should age as well as the B8, which looks pretty youthful for a seven-year old design.

In any case, the fifth-generation A4 is larger (25 mm longer, 16 mm wider, 12 mm longer wheelbase) and sharper than the compact exec it replaces, apparent once you give it more than a glance. Cabin space is above par for the class, and the new dashboard oozes class and quality, both in design and materials. It is this writer’s pick of the class, as you can read about in our review here.

To find out more about Ingolstadt’s latest volume model, check out the video above by Audi UK. It’s a comprehensive walk-around clip showing us what’s new (the wing mirrors now sit on the A4’s shoulders, like the TT and R8, for instance) and what’s cool (those distinctive LED DRLs are standard along with xenons, Matrix LEDs optional, dynamic rear indicators).

The red saloon featured in the video has an S line package, which includes chunkier bumpers and a black interior with unique seats and steering, among other sporty bits and emblems.

The video mentions some of the A4’s standard kit, including three-zone climate control with touch-sensitive buttons, Audi Drive Select and Audi Smartphone Interface, which links your iPhone or Android to the car’s MMI system, providing access to the device’s music and third party apps (Spotify shown). The tech theme is strong in this car, especially when one ticks the Audi Virtual Cockpit and head-up display options.

It’s not possible to demo, but the new A4 has class leading aerodynamics (Cd of just 0.23) that benefits efficiency and reduces noise. Very few would have guessed that from the Audi’s less than swoopy shape, an example of the substance under the familiar looks.

Coming next year as a rival to the facelifted F30 BMW 3 Series and the W205 Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

It is indeed the current technological tour de force of the German trio but will remain 3rd fiddle when it arrives here in Bolehland due to the status quo and for some obvious reasons like lack of nationwide after sales support and the new price cut for the W205 is heating up the competition back home. No longer would u need to spend more than 300k for the local top spec C class and the 328i M-Sport LCI is now 20k cheaper.
