The well-received PJ free bus service will see two new routes from the Taman Bahagia LRT station come January next year. According to The Star, Petaling Jaya mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said that the new PJ03 and PJ04 routes will accompany the current PJ01 and PJ02 CityBus.
Starting January 2016, the PJ03 bus, it will shuttle passengers along SS3, SS4, SS5 and SS6, while the PJ04 bus will shuttle those residing in SS1 and SS2. According to the mayor, the free buses will cost the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MBPJ) a total of RM6 million, altogether.
Halimey Abu Bakar, councillor of PJS5 and PJS6 had also requested for bus route to ply section 5 and 10 in PJS. The request however, could not be accommodated, as there were insufficient buses and it would affect the 15-minute frequency of the current routes.
In addition that that, Halimey proposed that the Petaling Jaya community bus, currently used in-house by the council, be put to use to transport passengers to and from the University Malaya Medical Centre and MBPJ’s headquarters.
Councillor for SS2, Lee Suet Sen noted that despite the increased bus routes, there is currently a shortage of bus drivers. “We should conduct a recruitment campaign in deprived areas in Petaling Jaya,” he suggested.
