DRB-Hicom announces Syed Faisal Albar as new CEO

DRB-Hicom has announced that it has appointed Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Akbar to the position of group CEO of DRB-Hicom. He will assume the post effective March 4 next year. The announcement of the appointment was made via a statement issued to Bursa Malaysia.

Syed Faisal will take over from Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil, who is retiring. Khamil, who has been group MD since March 1, 2006, will relinquish his position on March 1, 2016, in order to allow time for a handover to Syed Faisal to be completed.

Prior to this appointment, Syed Faisal was the CEO of Malakoff Corp. Before joining Malakoff, the 50-year-old – who is an accountant by profession – was the CEO of Gas Malaysia Berhad from June 2013 to December 2013.

He was also the executive director of Konsortium Logistik (KLB) from June 2013 to December 2013, and was previously group MD of POS Malaysia from 2008 to 2011 and CEO of New Straits Times Press from 2003 to 2008.

No actually. PROTON’s numero uno is still Dato Harith. Gotta remember that eventhough Proton is park under the DRB-HICOM as a group (and DRB owns PROTON in terms of shares), in terms of the decision it is still from the CEO of PROTON. I am working in DRB-HICOM.

Is really the best being hired?

    • Whats your definition of best? He’s been CEO, ED, MD of various companies. Perhaps being judged best should be after seeing a few years of him at the helm.

    This dude looks lunsi.
If he can resurrect Proton,it is a miracle.
He will be like Carlos Ghosn who resurrected Nissan from huge losses,if he can turn bleeding proton around.
Be humble, dont act like you are Bill Gates when you are no where near even Ananda or Robert Kuok.

Lunsi John,Some of the richest people on earth are in fact very very humble.
Bill Gates,Warren Buffet,Robert Kuok,Ananda are down to earth and NOT lunsi at all.
Even our Tun is not lunsi, alto he likes to speak his mind on current issues. He even dare to call some of his staff LAZY.Speaking out on righteous issues does not imply snobbishness.
On the other hand, those who only know how to angkat telur, bodekking and yes men,are SPINELESS and always ask for favours and handouts.SHAMBOLIC.

      • Yes. They have the right to be lansi but they choose not to.
But Proton staff choose to be lansi when they do not have the capability and right to be lansi.

Another Khazanah chosen CEO from Malakoff similar to Ahmad Jauhari?
DRB needs a automotive experienced leader who can bring with him radical changes and a reboot to the Proton branding.
But sadly a CEO with power generation, logistic and postal experience will get Proton nowhere.

To correct:- we got many talents in private NON GLC linked companies. Look at YTL, PBB, IOI etc. unfortunately, GLC only hiring non-talent to fill up the positions.

They should hire Tony. We can get a no frill Proton, ProTune by AirAsia! Wheels, signal, side mirror are optional…

  • I like how some of you here claim some people to be lansi (some just by looking at his face, some because people said so but never from direct experience), and also how some of you here claim some people are not lansi (just by reputation alone, or just by the fact that he gives a lot to charity).
At one point in time, Trump was the nice, next door CEO of a giant business enterprise… today, by actually listening to him, he’s just another lansi fler…

The Group CEO is unlikely to micromanage subsidiaries like Proton. His main concern would be profitability, market share and customer/partner/shareholder/employee satisfaction.
