All 29 Malaysian Suzuki dealerships are now Proton Edar outlets; sales of Suzuki brand models ended

Proton-Suzuki-dealership-signing

Proton Holdings Berhad’s partnership with Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn Bhd has now moved on to its next strategic move, where all 25 3S and four 4S Suzuki dealership outlets will be converted to Proton Edar outlets. At the same time, Suzuki is going to end sales of its own brand models in Malaysia.

However, all 29 outlets will still carry both the Proton and Suzuki logos. Additionally, all 48,000 existing Suzuki customers in Malaysia will still be able to get their vehicles serviced and repaired at these outlets. This move will also allow Suzuki dealers to sell Proton cars from their dealership outlets.

“The industry is aware that Suzuki is going to end sales of its own brand models in the Malaysian market after the Memorandum of Understanding and License Agreement were signed between the three parties, Proton, DRB-HICOM and Suzuki on June 15, 2015.

“The rationalisation of SMA operations was originally expected to be completed within a year but it has progressed earlier than planned to realise the next phases of the partnership,” said Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah, CEO of Proton, adding that Suzuki dealers are excited to sell Proton cars.

“Suzuki Malaysia Automobile is proud to have worked alongside and served our amazing partners and customers here in Malaysia over the past decade. The consolidation of Suzuki’s existing showrooms with Proton further strengthen the synergy between both brand ensuring the constant deliver of automotive after-sales services that our customers are accustomed to,” said Masashi Fukuda, managing director of Suzuki Malaysia Automobile.

“The existing Suzuki car owners can be rest assured as their automotive needs such as the after sales services and warranty coverage with the use of genuine Suzuki parts will continue to be managed and covered. They can continue to send their cars to these outlets which are strategically located across Malaysia,” added Masashi Fukuda.

“With the additional 29 new 3S and 4S outlets, this will add to the strength to the new Proton in providing enhance quality facilities at all our sales and after sales service outlets nationwide” ended Datuk Harith.

Satria Neos were once sold there as a base car for rallying. Quite a lot of small rally teams bought it. For some reason they liked to tune the Campro, and put anime girl stickers on the body.

Btw, for the record, none of the Suzuki services were 100% competent after MOFAZ close its Suzuki service centre at Penchala many years back. Setia Gemilang at Sg Buloh was average only.

Proton, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and HONDA all handled by DRB.

Hardly surprising when they get HONDA to donate the 8th gen accord to be perdana.

Suzuki sales was not as strong as 5 years ago, DRB quickly did some thinking and planning. Again, I am not surprised at all

  • Proton achieving 13% TIV in 2016 on Jan 14, 2016 at 2:07 pm

Proton just don’t get it? Don’t they?

The problem with Proton is never about how many outlets or models it produces, it’s all about QUALITY.

Iriz, Preve and Suprima are decent cars, they are the best with what our domestic engineering capacity can offer. I salute our anak watan engineers and technicians behind these efforts. Sadly, the “CRONY DIDAHULUKAN” will ultimately kill Proton!

The problem with Proton is never about its design or technical competency (except in engine department, because the lack of R&D fund hampered them to make something better than the outdated CAMPRO), the biggest problem with Proton is all about its CRONY INFESTED SUPPLY CHAIN that chunks out lousy, nasty and low quality parts that are ultimately fitted in the final product. Hence, the final product is marred with defective issues and reliability problems. This is the TWO main factors that erodes customer’s confidence and the drop of sales to such a sorry state Proton suffers today. To put it more accurately, Proton only manage to garner about 15.7% TIV in domestic market in 2015 (just over 100,000 units), the LOWEST in history which I predicted accurately since the start of 2015. Albeit with the launch of Iriz, my prediction of Proton sales will drop to 15% of the TIV was fervently denied by irrational fanboys who were too indulged in Proton’s fake “game changer” slogan associated with the Iriz. Now I am proven right, what next for them to say?

It seems that Mahathir will never get to the root of the problem, he LOVES his cronies too much until they are deemed “untouchable”. It doesn’t matter which manufacturer Proton choose to go to bed with, Malaysian buyers will continue to shun Proton until Proton finally get its act together to improve its QC and QUALITY.

Go to the showroom and check out the Preve, Proton can’t even get a door panel screwed right and tight after 30 years of making cars. Use your fingers to press on the dashboard and check on those awful gap on the dashboard, doesn’t that tells you something about how awful Proton quality and QC is? Actually, Proton doesn’t need to rebadge Japanese cars, the Iriz, Suprima and Preve are designed and engineered competent enough to compete locally, but the EXECUTION IS A BIG FAILURE. That is the main reason people buy a Myvi over a Iriz even though they know Iriz is a safer and better car. Proton just don’t get it. They just don’t!

All Proton needs to do is to fire all crony suppliers and totally revamp its supply chain and QC. I gotta say this from my heart, I will buy a Suprima if its made of Mazda CKD or Nissan CKD standard, never mind the stupid Punch CVT or the non-efficient CFE turbo. From Tanjong Malim? Well, I rather spend my hard earn cash on something else.

This is only way to save Proton. Minus this out, Proton will continue to slump until its ultimate bankruptcy. I don’t see Suzuki will be able to save Proton. I’ll put my estimation of Proton sales figure in 2016 to just 13% of the TIV, or slightly less than 90,000 units. I wish Proton can prove me wrong. Sadly, judging the way they are heading, I will be proven right again come 2017. Let’s wait and see.

Malaysian at large, still wants to see Proton succeed. It’s just what the management is currently doing is ultimately killing our first national car maker.

Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 77 Thumb down 7

This is very good news. Proton really needs to improve their aftersales, and Suzuki’s network would be a fine addition. From Suzuki’s perspective, it’s good news too, because they will get more customers in the long run. Suzuki Malaysia’s sales are quite small compared to UMWT and Honda Malaysia or even TCM Nissan, so these 29 dealers have more to gain from selling Proton cars, and servicing Protons and Suzukis.

Just can’t help it la when it comes to my friend here.

Good news? Put it this way la, I’ll repeat myself. When you’re proud of rebadging junk and calling yourself a carmaker, as how Proton does, its a reflection of not only Proton, but its numerous supporters.

To proton supporters, you have no ambition in life, you don’t want to move up in life, you are jaguh kampung, you are pathetic losers, to be proud of a rebadge machine like Proton. You have no idea what patriotism and loyalty means. Let me give you a hint, constructive criticism, as in what some of us try to give, i.e. rationalised range of models – ABCD segment, one car in each segment, focus on reliability, simplify design, use modular components, lower development costs, etc, NONE of which Proton has done or changed itself, AND we get labeled Proton-BASHERS. Its shameful to be around no ambition dimwits.

I test drove current Suzuki model 2 years ago and I was unimpressed. Quality was just mediocre, metal door was a little too thin, I can almost dent it with my bare hands. Tye chassis didn’t feel solid either. I ended up buying Proton Preve CFE which has about the same price as Swift but with much better space, handling and performance. As tye saying goes, the proof of the pie is in the eating, the proof of the car is in the driving.
