Jazeman Jaafar joins HTP Motorsport in 2016 – possibility of racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 in Le Mans

Jazeman Jaafar-2

Jazeman Jaafar, who last year competed in the World Series Formula Renault 3.5 championship and came in eighth, today held a press conference in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur to announce his move to HTP Motorsport, racing the Mercedes-AMG GT3. His contract with HTP is a one-plus-one, with renewal dependant on results.

The plan is for Jazeman, who is based in London, to participate in two race series, the Blancpain Sprint, which comprises of one-hour races, and the Blancpain Endurance series of three-hour races in Europe. In addition to these two year-long series, Jazeman will participate in the Spa 24-hour endurance race and a possibility of the Sepang 12-hour. There is no mention of who Jazeman’s team-mates will be in HTP, but the team is expected to make an announcement by early next week.

The icing on the cake is the possibility of Jazeman racing in the ultimate endurance race, the Le Mans 24 hour. Speaking frankly, Jazeman said, “my being part of HTP this year is a good thing. It is a change from racing Formula 3.5, where I did well.” Jazeman’s best ever performance was winning Formula Renault in Monaco last year.

“I see this as a stepping stone forward towards my dream of being in Formula One. It develops me to becoming a complete driver as well as building my relationship with Mercedes,” says Jazeman. The Blancpain Sprint has five races in the calendar while the Endurance series comprises of four races.

  • very good. the only way he is going to succeed and race at a higher level is that he must never return to malaysia, for his own good.

There is no local single seater championship in Boleh for his level.. He come back or not no different. Many Boleh young driver is competing in Europe eg UK, Germany n Italy but to stay there they all need sponsorship.

The most successful drivers are not just talented but they must also be marketable. I think he has what it takes to go far if he works hard at it.
