More than two years since it received the green light for production, the Audi Q1 looks set to make its debut this year, if this teaser image on the company’s official Facebook page is anything to go by. With the Geneva Motor Show set to take place soon, the Four Rings could very well debut its smallest crossover then.
In the teaser image, we see a row of Audi’s current SUV offerings – the Q3, Q5 and Q7 – parked side by side to one another. However, the left-most parking spot appears to be vacant, and reserved for the “soon” to arrive car. Of course, Audi is keeping its lips sealed on what the model will be, although judging from the descending order of its SUV line-up, it’s a clear indication that it will indeed be the Q1.
The Q1 has already been sighted in prototype guise before, first wearing crafty Tiguan overalls, and later in its own body panels, albeit wrapped with the familiar swirly camouflage. The teaser image seen here isn’t accompanied by any information about the car.
However, it will likely ride on the Volkswagen Group’s modular MQB platform, with front- and all-wheel drive powertrains offered in diesel and petrol configurations. Expect the crossover to be sized below the C-segment, Golf-based Audi Q3 (obviously), which makes it even smaller than the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
