The intent just won’t go away, even if the RS idea has (last count stood at no), and so a supposed power hike for the Ford Fiesta ST is apparently on the cards – Autocar UK reports that a bumped up version of the Fiesta ST could make its debut in Geneva, badged as an ST Plus.
The up-muscled Fiesta is reported to be one of seven new offerings the Blue Oval has planned for the market this year, the publication says. No power figures as yet, but the output from the 1.6 litre turbo mill could marginally increase on the 215 PS and 320 Nm seen in the car’s power-boosted Mountune form.
Suspension revisions and a more extreme bodykit have also been rumoured for the Plus, which would follow on that bandied for a RS, which was supposed to bring along a new front end, revised side skirts and reworked rear end and a sport-tuned suspension, among other improvements.
Plans to introduce a RS version of the Fiesta have been put to rest, if the latest reports are right. Autocar says that the momentum has been lost possibly because there’s no room for such a model in the automaker’s hot hatch line-up. The Fiesta ST in its Mountune state is only 35 PS off the 250 PS seen in the bigger Focus ST, and with the kit on the Fiesta ST’s pricing is rather close to the latter’s stock form.
While a Fiesta RS would be just the thing for marketers, given the acclaim the new Focus RS has been getting, it’s said that such a car will likely tread on the toes of the Focus ST, and thus a slightly less hardcore Fiesta ST Plus model is a better fit into the available line-up.
That doesn’t mean that there won’t be more RS models coming about, just that the brand is being judicious about it – as global sales and marketing chief Stephen Odell put it recently, the RS moniker is a valuable brand and the company has an opportunity to keep it fresh. Expect it in the next-gen Fiesta, then.

No doubt good handling and fun to drive, if NOTHING breaks. It is quite tiring to repair a Ford, according to my customers.
Yes, Ford cars are the second most problematic cars to repair according to mechanics. Peugeot is the most expensive. Also, part prices for Ford’s are expensive. My Focus is having ECU issues and I found out that the ECU set up is also not very user-friendly. Another problem is the electronics and wiring. Always having issues with these. Quite costly to repair the cars.
