2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro – tougher look and feel

2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro 30

A hardcore version of the Toyota Tacoma has been introduced by the brand in the United States. The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Series derives from the brand’s road racing heritage and its victories in the Baja off-road endurance races. The 2017 Toyota Tacoma gets a series of off-road equipment designed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD).

Based on the Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4×4 Double Cab Short Bed model, the front of the truck sees a TRD Pro aluminium front skid plate fitted to start things off. Apart from that, it gets LED fog lights, automatic projector-beam headlights with black bezels and LED daytime running lights. On the side, there’s a TRD Pro badge with diamond-pattern knurled finish for the front doors.

Furthermore, it comes equipped with a Toyota front grille with colour-keyed surround, black over fenders, a black hood with scoop and graphics, colour-keyed power mirrors and door handles. Going round the back, the Tacoma receives taillights with black bezels and a black TRD Pro and 4×4 rear tailgate badging. There’s also a colour-keyed rear bumper in place.

Inside, the truck gets black TRD Pro leather-trimmed heated front seats with TRD Pro logo on the headrest. Both are four-way adjustable, and the driver’s seat comes with lumbar support. Other items include a TRD shift knob and floor mats. There’s also a leather-trimmed tilt and telescopic steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth hands-free phone controls.

Additionally, it receives Entune Premium Audio with Integrated Navigation and App Suite. Standard in the Tacoma TRD Pro is an analogue instrumentation that comes with a 4.2-inch colour multi-information display (MID). For off-roaders who want to capture their off-roading adventure, a GoPro Hero camera comes as standard and is mounted on to the windshield.

Giving the truck extra agility off the beaten path, it gets TRD-tuned rear suspension with progressive-rate off-road leaf spring. To add to that, it also features TRD-tuned Fox 2.5 Internal Bypass shocks and front springs with a one-inch lift. To wrap things up, the truck sits on 16-inch TRD black alloy wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Kevlar-reinforced tyres.

Performance-wise the Tacoma carries on with an untouched 3.5 litre V6 engine. All Tacoma TRD Pro models are equipped with electronically-controlled 4WDemand part-time 4WD with a transfer case and an automatic limited slip differential. Unique to the Tacoma Pro manual variants is the Active Traction Control (A-TRAC).

As for the automatic variants, they get Tacoma TRD Pro’s Crawl Control, multi-terrain select system and hill start assist control. On top of that, standard driver assistance tech includes blind spot monitor function and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA). The trucks comes with a 36-month/ 57,900 km warranty and will go on sale in the US by September this year.
