BMW M2 Coupe gains optional M Performance Parts

BMW M2 Coupe M Performance Parts 1

The new BMW M2 Coupe certainly got enthusiasts and fans of the previous 1 Series M Coupe raving when the Bavarian automaker introduced it back in October last year. Now, BMW has introduced a range of M Performance Parts for the 2 Series range-topper, promoting better performance and looks.

First item on the list is the M Performance flap silencer system, which BMW says “makes for a more intense perception of the engine sound.” Controllable via a Bluetooth remote control, you get two operating modes – Sport and Track. The former is meant for use on public roads, while the latter turns the volume up while you’re on the track.

The high-gloss silencer unit consists of 80 mm-diameter tailpipes with a deep-embossed M Performance logo and perforated inner pipe. As an alternative, carbon-fibre elements are available for the M Performance exhaust system – 93 mm tailpipes with an integrated BMW M logo.

The BMW M2 Coupe can also be fitted with the BMW M Performance coil-spring suspension that can reduce the car’s ride height by as much as 20 mm. The new suspension also features dampers that can be adjusted to 16 levels in the rebound stage and 12 in the compression stage, for a more personalised handling setup.

Next, BMW M Performance sports brake pads derived from BMW’s motor racing experience are to be found. Here, they offer higher resistance to thermal stress and have significantly less fade. The company also claims that it offers a more direct response as compared to the standard brake system.

No changes to the M2’s 3.0 litre single turbo direct injection six-cylinder engine, which continues to offer 370 hp and 465 Nm of torque (overboost to 500 Nm available), paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed M DCT dual-clutch gearbox.

Other items in the M Performance Parts portfolio for the BMW M2 Coupe include aerodynamic components made of carbon-reinforced plastic (CFRP) or carbon-fibre, including front and side sill attachments, rear diffuser and mirror caps. An M Performance radiator grille for the front and side in high-gloss black gets an integrated BMW M logo in the BMW M colours red, blue and light blue.

Inside, the motorsports influence sees the addition of a steering wheel wrapped with an Alcantara cover. The steering wheel itself can be had with an LED gear shift indicator as well. Other components offered include LED door sill covers and carbon-fibre trim elements.
