Citroen C4 Cactus Rip Curl – a beachmobile for all

CL 16.015.007

For this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Citroen will unveil the ultimate beachmobile, and we’re not talking about its concept from last year either. This is the Citroen C4 Cactus Rip Curl, the result of a collaboration between the French carmaker and Australian surfwear maker, Rip Curl. The special edition model is set to be marketed in the first half of 2016.

Before we dwell into the visual enhancements, the carmaker is quick to mention that the Citroen C4 Cactus Rip Curl will be the only variant in the Cactus range that carries its new Grip Control system to help maximise traction on difficult surfaces.

The system uses an advanced anti-skid function built into the ESP computer, which manages skid in the front driving wheels. It also features various modes – Standard, Sand, Off-Road, Snow and ESP Off to adapt the vehicle to the terrain. Power is still supplied by either a PureTech 110 S&S or the BlueHDi 100, both paired to a manual transmission.

The special edition Cactus has a slightly revised exterior that includes white side mirror housings, white roof rails and various graphics with Rip Curl badging. Front and rear aluminium-grey skid plates are also fitted here, along with 17-inch wheels and Goodyear 205/50R17 size tyres.

Like the standard car, there is a wide range of colour schemes to choose from. For the body, five colours are available – Olive Brown, Obsidian Black, Aden Red, Aluminium Grey and Mother-of-Pearl White. A sixth option, Baltic Blue will join the mix by the end of the year. The functional Airbump can also be specified in either Dune, Chocolate or Grey, if the standard Black isn’t to your liking.

Interior changes meanwhile, include Mica Grey fabric seats (mixed leather back/black fabric optional), Pulp Orange accents located on various parts of the cabin and Rip Curl-branded floor mats. Passengers will also be treated to a seven-inch touchscreen tablet, a panoramic sunroof (with high thermal protection) and a special glove-box lid with straps and spikes.

Other standard features found on the Citroen C4 Cactus Rip Curl originate from the C4 Cactus Shine model. Therefore, rear parking assistance, automatic climate control, automatic headlights, rain sensors, a navigation system, six-speaker MP3 audio system and cruise control (with speed limiter) can be found here.

The Cactus is the best model in the Citroen line up at the moment. It’s such a shame that it is not even being offered here.
