VIDEO: Team Proton R3 release new S1K Race clip

Slightly overdue, Proton Motorsports has finally released a video of Team Proton R3’s efforts at the last Sepang 1000 km (S1K) race. With the Honda Malaysia Racing Team clinching overall victory, Proton was left to finish in 5th and 11th places accordingly.

But while it may not have won, the Proton Motorsport team says that the result will further motivate them to do better. Winners of the event in 2014, Team Proton R3 says that just bringing both cars to the finish line this year was a great achievement, considering the difficulties it was up against.

Team Principal and driver of the new Proton Iriz R3 racer, Tengku Djan Ley said that he was proud of the team’s achievement. Tengku Djan and Syafiq Ali teamed-up to drive the new Proton Iriz R3 which finished the race in 5th place. The team’s Suprima S R3 was piloted by James Veerapen and Fariqe Hairuman.

“I’m happy with the result, from all the testing that we’ve done. But it is unfortunate. It’s racing, and this is an endurance race. We fell into some trouble which caused us to pit for longer than we needed, but we tried to claw back as much as possible. Finishing 5th, with all the issues that we had was still a great feat for the team,” Tengku Djan said about the effort made by his Iriz R3.

“In the case of the Suprima S, it’s really unfortunate. We put in a lot of effort in terms of building the car. Within the first hour we came up with electrical issues, which we managed to solve, but it cost us the race. We had another stop in the race due to the alternator. It’s a long race, 1000 km, 181 laps, and we expect things to happen,” he continued.

Finally I see proton started to create value for their car. Hire back the same team who make this video for your new car launch. Confirm people perspective will change.

Hahaha the Supima and Iris cannot even last simple endurance race wit “eletrical and alternator” issues…and since sales dropping like mad, they still can find time for this wasteful effort, even major motor manufacturers pulling out of motorsport

As a person of very critical of and hate Proton, I have to admit Iriz is a very decent car, so damn near that I will define it as excellent in local standard.

The 1.3 MT standard is the one that I like the most, with no frills minimalistic equipment (I don’t need touch screen, rear viper, bodykit, coloured side mirrors or the additional USB ports), coupled with ESP and a sweet Gretag 5 speed manual box (not the stupid Punch CVT please), it’s a bang for buck for just RM40,000 to owned. I have seen many forum’s feedback, apparently, and ironically, the Premium and more expensive 1.6 CVT has more QC and reliability issues such as lousy touch screen unit, the push-start fail to crank the engine! (seriously?) and CVT issues. Surprise, surprise, the 1.3 MT with the least equipment is the best amongst all variants in terms of reliability ! (maybe less things to go wrong)

I’ve drove the car many times, and I like it very much. The clutch is so so so easy to modulate and I am sure I am delight to handle it even in traffic jams. The handling is top notch and the steering is sharp as a Fiesta! This is the Proton that I’ve not seen for years.

Waiting for the 1.3 turbo MT, if they make it like the legendary Satria GTi, I am starting to have a glimmer of hope willing to sign the dotted line once again, even though I vowed never a Proton again after two nightmarish ownership experience. So Proton, it’s buck up or go south, your call.

i think if iriz owner doesn’t encounter this rattling noises/reverse sensor problem/ handbrake and unable to start your car on first try then iriz will be an excellent car. Well i own 1.3 MT Exec it’s nice, the handling, the noise, the suspension, the acceleration and safety.. Now waiting for 1.3 Turbo MT, hoping it will be out around 2018..

Dear brother, it’s not like playing gran turismo with a full customized 400km/h car doing 1000km in one day.

This is a reality which had men to drop sweat, blood and tears. Cars being tested to its full potential non-stop with harsh beatings , enduring strong cornering force. Pushing the driver to the limit while trying to make minimal mistake.

Be in their position, and you can feel the satisfaction, to see their creation even survive the tough challenge.

Hahah…you think so easy to drive and punish a car for 1000kms?

You do a 4 hour stint at the wheel at race pace and you can feel like all your body parts have fallen off.
