Lotus Exige Sport 350 Roadster debuts in Geneva

Lotus Exige 350 Sport Roadster 7

After the introduction of the Lotus Exige Sport 350 Coupe, the British marque has chosen this year’s Geneva Motor Show to release the drop-top version of the 350. The new Lotus Exige Sport 350 Roadster replaces the Exige S Roadster, and adopts the ‘Sport’ naming designation like the Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220.

Lightweight is still the name of the game here, and the Exige Sport 350 Roadster is even lighter compared to its hardtop sibling (1,125 kg). This is thanks to an assortment of lightweight components fitted to it, including forged alloy wheels, plus cross drilled and vented two-piece brake discs

Various items on the car like the rear tailgate, side air intakes and seats are made of carbon-fibre as well, including the Carbon Aero Pack that tags on a front splitter, rear wing and rear diffuser. The car tips the scales at 1,085 kg, a full 40 kg less than the hardtop.

The mechanicals however, remain unchanged, with the same 3.5 litre supercharged V6 engine, providing 345 hp (350 PS) at 7,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. The engine is available with either a six-speed auto or manual gearbox.

As far as performance goes, the Roadster will accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 3.7 seconds, slightly quicker than the hardtop by 0.1 seconds, but with a lower top speed of 241 km/h in the interest of keeping your hair relatively intact, or the roof attached.

Similar to the Coupe, the Roadster can be specified with a wide range of options including a heritage theme that features lightweight sports seats and door panels clad in red or yellow Tartan, with leather or Alcantara interior trim as an alternative.

Whatever Lotus launch, Malaysian sure can’t afford it, even though it is owned by Proton. Proton really good, rip you off on their Saga and rip you even more on the Lotus.
