Mercedes-AMG E43 4Matic debuts – 401 hp, 520 Nm

Mercedes-AMG E 43 4MATIC (W 213) 2016

Here is the Mercedes-AMG E 43 4Matic – the most powerful version of the W213 E-Class revealed yet, as we await the arrival of the full-blown AMG E 63. Sitting ahead of the Mercedes-Benz E 400 4Matic in the W213’s hierarchy, this model features the same 3.0 litre V6 engine, with the trappings of the AMG division.

But unlike other AMG 43 models (previously known as AMG Sport models), the E 43 gets a bit more power than usual. Its 3.0 litre biturbo V6 makes an additional 34 hp than AMG C 43 Coupe, for example. Mercedes-AMG says that the additional power come courtesy of a set of new, larger turbochargers and software updates made to the engine management system.

In the E 43, the mill produces 401 hp at 6,000 rpm and 520 Nm of torque between 2,500 to 5,000 rpm. The fastest W213 E 43 to date is capable of performing the century sprint in 4.6 seconds — significantly quicker than the W213 E 400 4Matic’s 5.3 seconds.

An AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive has been included here, configured for a 31:69 rear-biased torque split. A 9G-Tronic nine-speed torque converter automatic transmission is charged with distributing this power to all wheels. The E 43 also rides on a sports-tuned version of the Air Body Control air suspension.

Visually, the E 43 gets a pure AMG Line exterior kit (sportier bumpers and side skirts), but adds to that a single-bar diamond radiator grille with chrome pins, a boot lid spoiler, and signature AMG quad-exhaust tips. A set of 19-inch AMG five, V-spoke light-alloy wheels (as pictured above) is part of the variant’s standard appointments. Perforated front disc brakes are also a feature, with AMG lettering on the brake calipers.

Additionally, the AMG E 43 in these pictures appear to feature Mercedes-Benz’s Night Package styling kit — this adds a high-gloss black finish to cosmetic elements in bumpers, wing mirror covers, exhaust tips and belt line trim. As standard, the wing mirror would match the car’s primary body colour, while the other items mentioned would be presented in a chrome finish.

The interior of the AMG E 43 gets Artico man-made leather/Dinamica microfibre upholstery in black as standard — Nappa leather is optional. As per the AMG distinctions, red topstitching is featured throughout the cabin, along with an AMG flat-bottomed steering wheel, sports pedals and more. The digital instrument panel adds a Race Timer visual and a digital speedometer dial which goes up to 280 km/h.

As mentioned, the Mercedes-AMG E 43 will make its market debut in September 2016. Before this, the car is will make an appearance at the coming New York Auto Show. Want one? The W213 E-Class is expected in Malaysia later this year, but it remains to be seen if or not MBM will introduce its AMG 43 variants here. Tell us what you think in the comments section below!

its good that mercedes expanding the AMG range ,maybe in the future we might see an E33 Diesel AMG ? VW and Ford released diesel versions of their hot hatches…

Its a niche market perhaps, but ,u gotta be bold like BMW creating untapped / unknown market sometimes…

Very nice. Have to admit, Mercedes is making more desirable cars than BMW, though BMW still handles better. But in the end, how often will you take your mid size luxury sedan to carve canyons, and how often will it be driven in traffic or on straight highways? Probably more of the latter, I would guess. The new 5 Series will have a tough fight pulling in customers from the Mercedes showroom.

Mercedes E43 perhaps could be revived as E430.

Anyway, list of predecessor and current variant of E-Class listed as below:

    1) E200 / E200 Kompressor – remain as E200 as base model
    2) E220 (W124) / E230 (W210) – succeeded by E240 (briefly revert back to E230 in W211), then E250 for W212 (unlike 90 era where 250 is exclusively for diesel variant)
    3) E280 – succeeded by E300
    4) E320 – succeeded by E350, then currently E400
    5) E420 – succeeded by E430, then no more already for W211 and W212 series. Perhaps this E43 (W213 model) could be a worth successor for E430.
    6) E500 – could be remain as E500, perhaps, another extended wheelbase version with Maybach logo could be introduced as a cheaper alternative for Mercedes Maybach S500.

Finally, high performance E-Class will be remain as E63 AMG (with 4.0 liter biturbo engine) unlike S63 AMG that comes with 5.5 liter biturbo engine.

Meanwhile, for diesel version (now reverted back as ‘d’ emblem compared with CDI and Bluetec emblem):

    1) E220 Diesel / E220 CDI – remain as E220d
    2) E250 Diesel (W124/W210) / E250 TD (W210) – succeeded by E270 CDI (for W210 and W211), then E250 CDI for W212. No hint about reintroduction for E250d for W213 which will use high power version of E220d.
    3) E300 TD – succeeded by E320 CDI and E350 CDI, then E350d
